I really have nothing to complain about my team this week. What I can talk about is some offseason drama and the perception of what seems to have shifted. One of the biggest areas that UGA is still "weak" at recruiting is WRs due to the perception that we don't throw the ball and we just like to grind out games, even though last season we had about 38PPG. Apparently over the off season, Kirby decided that he wanted to put that perception to bed and some folks are saying that the team goal is 45+ PPG and letting Monken develop a true pass first offense. Well, 49 last night against what might be one of the better defenses we will play this year and 38 passing attempts with only 6 incompletions and a total of 571 yards of total offense. Kirby, with his "always be recruiting" mantra, said that he hopes folks are watching the offense and want to come join in. Another big thing was keeping folks engaged with the program, namely Darnell Washington. He seemed frustrated when he wasn't getting touches last year, and when you are a 6'8" tight end that can do this: https://twitter.com/FootbaIIism/status/1566156158167121920 you really should be more than just a blocking TE. Well, he was featured last night because this is his money year. It really seems like Kirby has taken a shift, he has his hands fully out of the offense (though it was the same last year) and that he is now just out to prove a point. I honestly think other than Florida and Tennessee (and that is with a big maybe), there isn't anyone on our schedule that we should be worried about and back to back is a real possibility. Some guy on Reddit put together a list of Florida's visiting recruits for the Utah game. If Georgia is clowning on people with a 6'8", 5* TE then we need all the elite croots we can get. https://www.reddit.com/r/FloridaGators/comments/x2vrwn/visitors_for_week_1_vs_utah/

I honestly think other than Florida and Tennessee (and that is with a big maybe), there isn't anyone on our schedule that we should be worried about and back to back is a real possibility. A little difficult to weigh the UGA game yesterday because Bo Nix is fully entrenched in the Reggie Ball Memorial Pantheon of Dudes Owned by Georgia and Oregon straight quit in the second half, but that offense was so awesome yesterday that it's hard to ignore. When Stetson would roll out, from the upper deck I could see like five dudes with open space around them, almost every time. Guys flying all over the place. If Kirby's plan is to let Monken do what he wants and have an offense that's fun to play in, then there it was. Georgia was sneakily pass-to-set-up-the-run more than people thought last year, and they'll really be that this year seeing how Kenny Mac at RB1 is more a hybrid sort of skill player. UGA slowed things down when the game was out of hand but Stet was still chucking it. The only manball set I remember before the 3s were in the game ended with Bennett keeping it for a score anyway. Ugh to be honest I couldn't watch much (time zones, couldn't get a stream stable when it was already a 40-point game) but if Nix is that bad and the team is quitting like that, I'm worried, because they definitely looked like they downed tools against Utah last year. Next week is Eastern Washington, which is definitely closer to the "feisty" end of your FCS scale, but still should be a solid win. If it doesn't go well, I'm real, real worried. Week after is BYU, that might get ugly. Annoyingly, Oregon State looks like they might be pretty good too - that or Boise State is absolute rear end, which I'd also be okay with.

I thought it was wholly possible Utah would pants the hell out of us to start, and we somehow knocked off a top 10 team for Napier’s debut. The team played smart. Didn’t force anything. The OL looked insanely good. The defense played hard—especially in the end zone. Couldn’t ask for much better. I feel a lot better about UF football than I have in awhile.

Nothing is more important than the scoreboard, but under the hood it looks like Oregon gained a decent number of yards in spite of Bo Nix. So maybe there is some hope. Game 1 versus Georgia is a big ask from a new head coach. As for Florida, I am still in the riches-to-rags mindset. Games like last night's help. It takes years to build an elite roster but I liked the mindset and discipline shown against Utah. Really, really curious to see how they look for Kentucky.

Clones looked good against SEMO. They had like one bad half of a quarter. Otherwise, offense was clicking, defense was getting stops, all generally good stuff. ISU has typically struggled in its first week, so this was a good change of pace. Iowa struggled against their FCS opponent, so this means Iowa will put up 35 points next week.

I guess an intriguing option if you just wanted to scrounge out a bowl (Nebraska should've taken a chance!) but Oregon had higher aspirations going into the season one figured. Not sure why Lanning took him on seeing how his defense's owned Bo's rear end. Maybe it was an "I can fix him" sort of thing. I think Georgia's going to miss Nakobe Dean the most out of all the guys who got drafted; Oregon had some success to the edges where Nakobe last year would be there to clean stuff up. D.N.
