Just thought id put in that back when i was grooming dogs, one of the certifications was in long legged dog patterns. Airedales fell into this category. Maybe your retriever has airedale somewhere in its ancestry. Your dog just still looks like it is in gangly puppy stage, which can last a couple of years.

Seems pretty normal to me, ps I only know dogs that look like this By the way, this is actually a maned wolf. Maned wolves are also known for smelling like weed

I am pretty sure when the dog gets fixed affects the leg length, with earlier being associated with longer / taller iirc. I have a yellow lab that is about 30" at the withers and is an absolute unit of a dog

this provides a theoretical limit to dog leg length if the dog is fixed immediately after being born, as well as the implication that dogs who never get fixed eventually devolve into snakes
