Surprised I couldn't find a thread for this already but figured it was worthwhile.

This is for the all-time great Bits.

May as well start with Pete Holmes' "nothing makes sense"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyDpS-GftCk

Kevin Bridges' "Greek response to debt"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrfjDfL0fxQ

And of course Bill Hicks' classic "Just a ride"

Plenty more out there, so have at it.

Edward Mass posted:

Do sketches count?

I was originally thinking about stand up, but sure let's do sketches too.

This is so silly that I almost feel guilty but it's somehow honestly brilliant:

And I knew there was a stand up bit I was forgetting:

I do want to see more stand-up bits, but love a good history sketch too:

"Which, incidentally, is something else I'd quite like to talk to you about at some point"

And a brilliant Australian show in similar territory:

It's debatable as to whether it's even comedy, and it's a shame what's happened since, but this can't not go on the list as a magnificent use of the medium at a significant point in history:

T-t-t-triple post, but John Mulaney has at least 3 of some of the finest examples of the art form:

This deserves to be in here for set design alone, but says a lot of good things about College Tuition:

Kind of tragic for what's happened since, but pretty perfect for the time, "Horse in the Hospital":

Back to the Future pitch:

And James Acaster's "British Museum" is definitely in the top 5. Pretty much every second is just masterful.

There's a certain beauty in the simplicity of a well executed repetition joke:

There was one where a guy comes home after climbing a mountain and keeps knocking a shelf over that I can't seem to find, does anyone know what I'm talking about?

E - not as perfect as I remember but still a good example

I can see the sameness with "Battle Fatigue" and "Operational Exhaustion", but Shell Shock and PTSD are distinct things in my mind. Shell Shock is more about the immediate (and ongoing) effects of being next to an explosion, PTSD is more about the lingering psychological effects of being exposed to horrific events. The rest of the bit seems right though.
