Is Yakuza Like a Dragon a good starting point for that series? Or is it too much of a spin-off to be a good intro? I’ve been interested in that series for a while but I have no idea where to start at this point, and Ishin looks rad so I’d like to get at least one Yakuza game under my belt before I pick that up.

I’d start with 0 to be honest. While Yakuza LAD is a decent start point in that it pretty nicely introduces you to the world and tone of the series, you miss out on a ton of backstory that was established in the prior seven games, and even get some of it spoiled for you.

Judgment also wouldn’t be a bad start point either if you want to play something more modern, but it’s not quite up to Y0’s level of being amazing. Lost Judgment has some spoilers for Y7 in it though, so beware the sequel if you care about that kind of thing.

Full canon order, imo:

0, K1, K2, 3, 4, Dead Souls, 5, 6, Judgment, LaD, Lost Judgment.

You can skip Dead Souls if you don’t have a PS3 / are a coward, but you’ll probably know by the time you get there if you want to play a janky zombie side game or not. :v:

Ya know I don’t really think this is conclusive of anything given how bad the base game’s performance is on last gen lol

Sounds more like CDPR threw their hands in the air and gave up because their game’s performance is hot garbo and the new consoles cover up for it.

I think that’s the right way to look at it, lower spec’d RT capabilities mean you can’t just shove more power at the problem, and devs can focus on efficiency to get better results, which means that when more powerful RT stuff is introduced then they can really hit the ground running.

The main thing about VR that has me disenfranchised has nothing to do with the technology, which has improved significantly since it gained traction in 2016 and everything to do with the lack of support from the industry.

This is what made me a big fan of PSVR to be honest. It’s a relatively niche thing, but Sony’s support for it (and for devs using it) was and is pretty drat good. Having dedicated console hardware to use it with and a mandated baseline of performance both help a ton compared to PCVR setups or even something like the Quest, and I really hope they can knock it out of the park in that respect with the PSVR2.

Tethered vr is way less appealing now in 2022 than 2016. The cost is going to be high, the library is going to be small, and the distraction of supporting it is going to make even bigger gaps in 1st party releases for the regular console.

I dont see them outselling psvr 1 when oculus is cheaper than a switch, no tether, bigger library, and theres not the same vr hype as when psvr 1 launched and vr was the biggest new thing in gaming.

I think they are just gonna try and get all you 1 owners to rebuy beat saber before ghosting you on software support after 18 months

I mean, RE8 VR’s a launch title and it looks better than RE7 VR, which was pretty much totally worth the asking price of the whole deal. If that’s all I get out of it, then so be it, I’m OK with this.

Besides, new PSVR1 poo poo is still coming out pretty often. Not a lot of first party stuff for a while now but if you’re into it there’s still poo poo to play.

I get that “PSVR enthusiast” is kind of an edge case but I never really felt like it got abandoned or anything.

Is it gonna change the industry? Eh, maybe not, but it should be a pretty quality thing. (And nothing stopping them from making a wireless version down the line. Gotta make those early adopters get FOMO somehow!)

It'd be nice to have it muted unless you press the button on the controller, which is how I thought it worked until yesterday.

You can change the default by going to the Settings menu, Sound, Microphone, Microphone Status When Logged In.

I’m real hype for it. As far as hardware goes it sounds like they’re knocking it out of the park, and if Sony’s approach to software cert holds over from the PSVR1 there’ll be a really consistent performance floor across all the games for it.

I think the unique features the HW has are:
• Rumble in the headset
• Force feedback triggers like the DualSense
• First HDR OLED display in a VR headset (not sure if this is still true)
• Piggybacks off the PS5 so it has the SSD and 3D audio available

The biggest jump is in the graphics because it’s running on Unreal 4, which is how the Tony Hawk remasters worked too.

Here’s an answer from someone who has played all of them instead of the usual “herp derp asscreed Ubisoft bad”

Syndicate is probably the most enjoyable and tightly designed of the “classic” style games, which as noted before are still open world but more focused on missions and stealth and poo poo.

Origins and Odyssey are from the current direction of the series which is more fuckoff huge action RPG. You’ll be picking up gear and loot, selling and disassembling what you don’t like, upgrading what you do. Sidequests, ridiculously large map, it’s all there. You can still stealth and spec yourself out as such. Both are very good games. Odyssey is a little better but also twice as big and full of optional content you can burn yourself out on.

I would recommend one of those depending on which style of game sounds more up your alley.

Word of warning: Do not play Syndicate on PS5. As far as I’m aware the enormous problems with the dynamic time of day lighting were never patched. Almost every shadow in the game flickers in and out of existence multiple times a second and it really sucks.
