Can anyone more knowledgeable talk about the EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) party of South Africa? Julius Malema, the current leader, has described its ideology as Fanonist-Leninist but most information about them in English is tinged with NED-style hysteria. Hilariously I've heard them described as both anti-white (for their policy of expropriating large landowners who 30 yrs after Apartheid are still mostly white), and anti-black (for going after billionaire mining company owner Patrice Motsepe's corruption).

Think it's fair to describe the EFF a mixed bag at this point. Fair amount of run-of-the-mill corruption, though the fact they got kickbacks in the Jo'berg city government in collusion with the Democratic Alliance is pretty funny considering. And the brother of someone high-up in the EFF was involved in the collapse of VBS Mutual Bank and Malema was accused of benefiting from the corruption that brought it down (then sued for libel before dropping the lawsuit), but then several ANC high-ups were also involved.

Can't say I'm fussed by the singing of Shoot The Boer, that's pretty funny, but the party attitude to SA's Indian minority stinks.

They really seem fairly close ideologically with later Mugabe, really more a nebulous populism that mashes up nationalism with socialist rhetoric while ensuring the people at the top get rich but same time, you can see the appeal, South Africa needs someone other than the ANC to have a go in charge and who is the alternative?
