Unfortunately, they decided to tell people and take this public, so I will post what I know here. :siren:

Calling the entire fundraiser a scam or whatever isn't really accurate. The most that's in question, to my understanding, is from June 2022 and later.

Yeaaaah. I had a goon donate to me b/c I had been successful in a job interview and I needed to buy some uniform, I also paid for some cigarettes with that money but I asked them first and was transparent. They were cool with it and understood. (drug dependency suckkkkkssssk)

In America this would be a ruinous expense on part with buying a mansion in most places. For someone struggling with money it's only gonna happen if they get hooked up with a charity or non-profit that helps them out. Just having a nurse/doctor show up would be hundreds of dollars to start with.

I'm gonna have to ask you to cite your sources on this. I live in a town with a lot of old people where healthcare is a major industry, and having hospital care administered in-home is absolutely something I've seen people do. And that friend I mentioned earlier is poor as hell and didn't get help from any charity.

I am sorry. I have no vices for you to exploit.

This is really unfortunate and I hope a misunderstanding. Even if it isn't, it seems clear that the US healthcare system is so hosed up that it's easily believable that it could have bankrupted this person and left them financially desperate enough that whatever happened here seemed like the only way out of a horrible situation (given that the underlying purpose of their fundraiser was obviously real). So even if something really sad happened in this instance, I hope it doesn't sour goons too much on the good they've done. This community clearly helped this person whose posting indicates they have had a very rough life, even if they did something wrong here and may have profited from it.

I have personally received goon charity myself from the goonbucks thread despite basically being a random lurker and it helped me a few years ago when I was going through a rough patch. The forum does a lot of tangible good for people and it would be sad to see that generosity diminished, no matter what happened in this case.

I admit I am probably projecting a bit, but my read on Jeffery's PM sounds a bit like he is auditing 50GG like a Goon IRS, and if I read that right after being fired from my job while also dying of cancer like 50GG is claiming, then yeah I'd be pretty flippant at everyone and ready to burn it all down. Partly because I'd feel like a simple one-sentence reply wouldn't be enough and there'd be no point in trying, and I'm already dying of cancer and my job just fired me and gently caress you and gently caress the whole world.

the american health care system is a loving disaster but my dad was getting at-home medical treatment while dealing with stage 4 cancer and it was not nearly as expensive as that post made it out to be. hospital was waiving a bunch of poo poo because they wanted ICUs cleared for covid patients

especially if you’re receiving hospice/eol care. theyre charging you a fee for the bed and whoever’s coming over is volunteer

I actually hope it’s true. I’d rather live in the world where someone beat cancer on the back of community support and then made poor decisions in the wake of that, than the one where US healthcare grinds people down to nothing.

Go in peace either way imo. I gave money this year and I’m not upset.

Old people have Medicare and poor people have Medicaid, both of which often have better coverage for home health than commercial insurances do. This is not the "gotcha" you think it is. Let it go.

Before any more goons want to write all the possible scenarios in which the charity is 100% legit no problem whatsoever, remember that someone accepted $30k in donations and when asked to verify some conflicting information then posted a grand dramatic goodbye and tried to imply they were being harassed and mocked while on their deathbed.

The first time was simple confusion of an 18 year old visiting the UK for the first time, and not understanding how to tell a pub apart from a restaurant.

Later, my friend did not teach me the local language correctly so I could relive the experience.

(A friend chose this title for me.)

Just the timestamps on the twitter posts - I didn't save the original images, only the tweets, so I can't check either. This is certainly possible! That is why I focused on the IP logs which are harder to handwave away. The tweets were why the investigation started but the IPs are why I'm here if that makes sense.
