Oh yeah, I've got Clone Hero set up on my PC and I've been meaning to look into YARG. But thanks for the heads up, I'll give Drums Rock a pass.

I think roguelikes are an easy way to add some mileage to a small dev game and I usually don't mind it too much if it's done well.

Well, that’s typically when I don’t like it. Especially in VR, it’s often used to pad like an hour of content out to maybe three…

A lot of roguelikes are nearly identical experiences during each run, just with slowly ground out new skills and slightly different room layouts. A good rougelike really needs to have enough content that you’re still seeing new poo poo through different runs.

That seems to apply to Hellsweeper so far. All of my runs have been very different. Mission objective, enemy types, and level layouts seem to be able to change quite a lot. It’s really the only VR roguelike I’ve played so far that meets my standard.

Just wanna say I bought Pistol Whip on this thread’s recommendation intending it to be a light alternative to my exercise-bike days. An active recovery day activity. Instead I can’t get off the couch this evening because my legs are so sore and my avg heart rate this morning while playing was 147.

My understanding is that its out now and it works, but you need a GPU with a USB-C port, or an adapter that isn't out yet. My old PC has the requirements for it, so I intend to try it, but :effort: I will try to at some point this week.

When you get some time, please post thoughts. I'd love to be able to use this with the META games, since there are so many.

Yep! i'm dying to be able to use PSVR2 on PC, just would really prefer to use it on my current PC because its so much more powerful.

Personally I do not have a USB-C port on my video card so it’s a non-starter and I would wait for an official first part software solution anyway for any creature comforts like passthrough or proper haptics. There is no word on that.

But, for the intrepid…

If your PC can already run SteamVR, and you’re comfortable with ReVive to use Oculus/Meta X86 apps (not Android native Quest versions), and your video card has a USB-C port on it, it appears iVRy has this product on steam:

Steam posted:

SONY PSVR/PSVR2

In order to use the iVRy Driver for SteamVR for Sony Playstation VR (PSVR), you will need to install the iVRy PSVR "Lite" or "Premium" DLC from:

iVRy Driver for SteamVR DEMO (PSVR Lite Edition)

Which is an $18.99 add-on and may or may not support the new motion controllers.

In July, iVRy’s twitter boasted:

iVRy posted:

Day #139: PSVR2 tracking is 'done'. We now have full 6DOF headset tracking in SteamVR, with 2000Hz IMU and 60Hz SLAM, like PS5

Okay progress report: 1. I am stupid (no surprises there), 2. plugging PSVR2 into the USB-C port and I get video, it shows up as a second monitor, I can use Windows with the headset on. I dont know what that means. I need help troubleshooting this. Started up Beat Saber and it would only show up on my main monitor, not the VR headest. So that is the next goal.

[edit]
Okay Beat Saber shows up in VR (just make PSVR2 your primary monitor), but without the ability to use the motion controllers for PSVR2 on Windows, it doesnt do much good. Going to try Elite Dangerous.

[edit]
Okay I can only get a 2D view within the headset. Unsure how to do anything more than that.

Just to be sure, it needs to be the PSVR2 driver though doesn't it? That's not out yet. There is the driver for the first gen PSVR though.

In that case, the Steam VR page for the product is very misleading. As I quoted above it says “SONY PSVR/PSVR2”, so I’m certainly confused about why is the PSVR2 product listed on the tool if it doesn’t work! I quit Twitter along time ago but if I didn’t I would be shouting at iVRy to clarify why the product is listed on that page if the software is not for that product.

This is what I’m trying to give you $20 to find out.

I’ve gotten several PMs about folks wanting free $20. I’m not interested in this experiment anymore because:
What I’ve learned is that the alpha tool is $30 and available through iVRy’s Patreon
Motion controllers are not supported which is why they are using the weird NoLo kit that are a lot like Vive wands
No eye tracking, no haptics, very basic support in general, it is more worth your time to go find a used Quest because it will have more functionality than PSVR2 at this time.

I’m not even sure I would wait for official software support, I would just use another VR headset like a Samsung Windows Mixed Reality kit from your local GameStop for $100.

Yep, this is what I have found out too after more research. The iVRy guys come across as sketchy to me, their information is unclear, and they don't present their information in a completely honest way. I'm gonna wait for Sony to provide something legitimate. I appreciate your help and the work you put into finding out more info too. PSVR2 for all intents and purposes does not work yet on PC. You need very specific pretty outdated hardware, and the drivers aren't available yet anyways, so it's not properly supported.

I would also not get any headsets with Windows Mixed Reality, because that API is being removed from Windows at the end of 2024, and I do not know exactly what that will mean for headsets that rely on it. From the information I have found, all WMR headsets will just simply not work anymore.

Are there literally any other exclusive AAA games being planned for this? If not I’m going to sell my unit. I think Capcom is probably done and Sony has taken the “one and done” approach via Horizon as far as I can tell.

It's a platform with an install base of at most around 2 million, and the manufacturer has stopped producing new units. The math doesn't really pencil out for high-budget exclusives.

Are there any good PSVR 2 "experiences" that don't have gameplay? I have elderly relatives over who want to experience VR, but I'm struggling to find anything akin to the early titles like The Blu that came out on PC.

There's a couple PSVR 1 titles but I read that they're not compatible.

If you sort by "free" in the PS store, you'll see a rollercoaster "game" that looks like it's basically "ride a rollercoaster in VR" thing. Try that, it's free after all.

I really like Puzzling Places (also free demo), it's a 3D jigsaw puzzle.

The first 5-10 minutes of the Horizon VR game are on rails. They might enjoy mechanical dinos.

Also there's a kayak game that is nothing more than paddling.

Puzzling places is cool but the controls are temperamental and for someone who's never held a controller before, probably not as intuitive as they could be. the pieces have a tendency to snap into your vr hand at weird angles and you have to twist unnaturally to orient them. It would be fine for someone who's used to games and just never experienced vr, but might be frustrating for elderly relatives.

Horizon VR has a machine safari on rails which is totally passive, no interaction at all, and it looks spectacular. Be warned there's a fairly convincing jump scare at the end.

GT7’s museum mode is also fun to check out for non-gamer people, if you have it. And also fun to check out in general because they went nuts on all the car models.

Horizon has the regular non interactive ride part in the demo and there's a more extensive version of it in the full game that can be played separately called machine safari. tetris effect and Rez both have non interactive modes where you don't really have to do anything

That said, old people tend to pick up on VR quicker than you'd think and in my experience want to interact with the games. Sometimes you have to help a bit but it's usually a much easier proposition than a regular game to get them playing. My 70 yo mom cant find the power switch on a computer but played Horizon mostly just fine.

It’s an on rails shooter with a “rhythm” game attached. It’s bad. Maybe if I hadn’t played Audica first I wouldn’t be so harsh on it.

So last weekend I introduced a lady friend to VR for the first time via KayakVR. Her first impression: holy poo poo this is awesome! I wish there were animals to discover with binoculars or something cause she wanted it to be a NatGeo adventure, which it unfortunately is not.

Watching her play the 7th Guest was excruciating. The game doesn’t tell you to HOLD the triggers down when holding an item so she could barely get past the intro. She eventually did really well, but succumbed to the dreaded VR sickness from smooth locomotion.

We struggled a ton with the stupid boundary showing up. Why does sitting down default the system into putting walls right next to you? I finally gave up and created a manual play space but you can’t save it in a profile or anything so you can easily gently caress it up and need to redo it all when switching. Incredibly annoying.

All in all this was a great reminder why this format hasn’t hit critical mass. It needs to remember and dynamically update your play area, and it should auto detect the user based on their eyeballs or something so you don’t have to recalibrate the loving thing every time someone different uses it.

Pistol Whip has a PaRappa-esque sense of flow to it which makes it great IMO. You’re not following a sequence of notes, you’re shooting dudes to the beat, which allows for a lot of timing flexibility.

Plus unlike Beat Saber or Synth Riders, the timing part of the game is connected to a button (the trigger), which at least for me makes a huge difference in how good it feels.

I think rhythm games kinda live or die for people based on the soundtrack. I like the sort of electronica Synth Riders and Pistol Whip have and the movement and timing really make the flow work for me, but I hate the default tracks and overall vibe of Beat Saber. Some of the DLC packs are okay, but the game did not click for me at all.
