MY UNIVERSITY!!!!!!

quote:

In May 2004, Columbia University was ordered by the USDA to pay a $2,000 penalty for violations of the Animal Welfare Act. The fine paid by Columbia was the result of a settlement between the university and the USDA, based on the findings of Columbia’s internal investigation of Oz’s research. The USDA accepted these findings, but according to Dell’Orto, the review was faulty, and “had investigators on the committee that were also complicit in this type of poorly designed, cruel animal experimentation.”

quote:

Months after paying the $2,000 fine, in December 2004, Columbia defended Oz amid the animal abuse allegations, calling him “a highly respected researcher and clinician” who adhered “to the highest standards of animal care,” but neglected to deny any of the specific allegations Dell’Orto had made against Oz. On Monday, Jezebel reached out to Columbia’s office of communications and public affairs as well as Oz’s Senate campaign. Columbia declined to comment, and Oz’s campaign has yet to respond. Notably, in April this year, the Daily Beast reported that the university had seemingly cut all ties with Oz, stripping his personal pages from the medical center’s website. Oz formerly held senior positions including vice chair of surgery and director of integrated medicine at the medical center.

Depending on the state, field streakers get up to 180 days in jail (or nothing) on misdemeanor charges. Nobody really knows the intent of most field streakers, or if they're armed with a knife or something, so it's considered acceptable for security/players/etc to tackle them in whatever way works. And considering most stadium security types are usually more out of shape than the streakers, the players usually are thanked by both security and fans.

Plus the whole deterrent thing :v:

First, if it were an offense it would be battery not assault.

There’s a legal defense to battery called “assumption of risk” which means effectively that if you sign up for an activity where you’re likely to get hurt and do, you cannot recover from the person who hurt you. This is also why football players do not sue others for injury when it occurs during a game.

By jumping onto the field in the middle of the game, besides violating local law (which may preclude recovery in and of itself), the streaker assumed the risk that he would get leveled by a player.

The problem is Twitter just leads to even worse doom scrolling and 95% is pure garbage. I spent 2 years on that lovely site and then deleted my account because it didn't inform me as much as it just shows you what terminally online people are talking about (which lol on the quality of that discourse).

I assume this only applies to "things that you might reasonably expect to happen on a football field"? Like it wouldn't fly if the player decked him with his fist instead of tackling him right?

Nah. You're not going to win a suit against the player unless they went like way above and beyond. Say if after the guy had been tackled, the player continued to just beat the poo poo out of him. That would be something he could sue about and potentially get a settlement from the stadium owners or maybe even the player. A player just decking him to stop him from interrupting the game? Probably not. Same reason players don't get sued by other players for throwing a punch.

Don't jump in a boxing ring and be shocked you get punched. Don't hop on a football field if you don't want to get tackled. They have people in place specifically to prevent you from getting on the field for your safety because they're not liable if a 225lbs linebacker takes your head off.

And you could always go out to the 'ville and drink Hite or OB. Why would they ration booze in Korea? It's half the reason to take orders to go.
