Sometimes you have a great goaler like Jakob Markstrom in the regular season! Sometimes you have a lovely goaler like Jakob Markstrom in the playoffs!!!

reposted hot take because I still miss the thrill: In more Pens news sounds like P.O. Joseph is on the block before he gets waivered away for free So the return for Kessel coming off an 82 point season amounted to 1 horrid partial season of Galchenyuk and a dman that can't outplay Ty Smith in camp

Sullivan just dislikes young dmen in general I think. Like I am ecstatic to have seen the last of Mike Matheson in a Penguins uniform but they traded a 27 year old for a 34 year old, and then signed a 32 year old. The last thing the Penguins needed this offseason was to get even loving older, but Sullivan does not like young players and especially does not like young defensemen. I'm skeptical Smith will get much playing time either but we'll see. Eric the Mauve fucked around with this message at 21:58 on Oct 3, 2022 |

It'll be interesting to see which impulse wins out God I hope Smith sticks... we desperately need some youth on the roster. Thankfully our injury history and lack of depth might force Sully's hands on that part sooner than later

Is Dallas not going to sign their 23 year old 41 goal scorer? Bottom third of the league in offense was too exciting last year?

It'll be interesting to see which impulse wins out Smith has been more noticeable in usually a good way from the several games I've seen. But, spreadsheet says PoJ has had the significantly better chances. Also, trading away the last remaining left handed defender and having 5 righties seems incredibly unbalanced, but I'm sure they're just going to play Friedman on whatever side. As for PoJ...I have no idea. I'm going to be vastly more aggravated by everything Kapanen does anyways. Zohorna has looked decent... Poehling, Caggiula, and Nylander have probably looked a bit better by the eye test and spreadsheet places then all above him. O'Connor has played tougher minutes as well and be adequate.

I just finished watching the 2016 Pens-Caps and Pens-Lightning series and I heartily recommend anyone who likes hockey take that trip down memory lane, all the games are on Youtube. Those two series were some of the best hockey that has ever been played. All three of those teams were insanely good. Also holy poo poo have the Lightning been dirty fuckers throughout the Cooper era, that's definitely not a recent thing. 2016 was probably the best Caps team of the Ovi era, I forgot how beastly that team was. I'm retroactively glad they got their Cup in 2018, those Penguins losses in '16 and '17 were some bullshit.

Radim Zohorna or Big Z (and the kids table) as he is known as is a 6'6" left handed 26.5 year old depth forward. With very decent sheltered assignments he put up good production and drove play. At the AHL level he was close to point per. No idea how good he actually is. I liked him, but he didn't standout particularly relative to the half dozen other players Pittsburgh has like that.
