Gagliardi is on record being against paying a kid over $8mil before he Earns It, so clearly it makes sense to bridge him until the cap goes up in 3 years and then mega-pay him

Marc Staal and Radko Gudas as a second pairing looks like it should affect the model more too, especially when Ekblad misses half the season with an injury as per tradition

This seems pretty high. Barzal owns and is one of the shiftiest skaters in the league, great at entering the zone with the puck, but hasn’t come close to 80 points since his rookie year

Cap going up $10mil soon so it will probably be decent value in the end

Big blow for the Blues, he looked like a solid NHLer down the stretch last season. St Louis are super good at getting value out of picks in the 20-50 range, they should stop trading all their second rounders.

It’s funny how in most advanced stats models it’s goaltending that seems the most important, but Dom’s is “had bad goalies last year, thus goaltending not important for best team in league”

What about when Murray gets hurt for half the season like usual and they have to call up somebody even worse?

I expected Stutzle to look amazing on that line, but so far in preseason it just seems to be DeBrincat and Giroux clowning on dudes with Pinto on the second power play, without doing a ton with Stutzle at even strength. Give him the Barnaul contract and I think he’d live up to it.

Really hoping Stutzle picks it up for the regular season. If I remember correctly, he’s looked pretty bad in preseason every year he’s been in the league though, and then looked fine when the season actually started.

Pretty big believer in Pinto after this preseason. Might even be better than Norris at everything but socking dingers from the right faceoff circle. Between him and Sanderson, Sens might have a couple of rookie gems. Even Hamonic is looking competent next to Sanderson, which is a pleasant surprise.

Giroux and DeBrincat finding instant chemistry rules, and Pinto and Motte also look really good together. The 3rd line could catch some teams off guard with their speed

Defense is a huge question mark for me, Brannstrom has looked confident with the puck so far this preseason, even anchored to Zaitsev which is promising. If he breaks out and Sanderson plays his smooth skating, smart style as advertised it could be a middle of the league d.

Talbot being out ~2 months sucks, but nows as good a time as any to see if Forsberg can be a 1A

He looked OK in the preseason this year though, and had good chemistry with Giroux and DeBrincat on the PP, and I think he’ll be a perfectly fine 12th/13th forward.

I liked the Brass signing too, can be 4C but can slide up if injuries pile up a lot better than some other 4th liners. Tough to be too upset about him stealing a spot from Dylan Gambrell, even if Kastelic earned the 4C spot in camp imo.

According to a source familiar with the interactions between Tortorella and McCrossin, the two met only twice, once during one of Tortorella’s first days as coach, in which he allegedly chewed out McCrossin for the way he treated players and told him he didn’t want McCrossin on his staff.

The second meeting between Tortorella and McCrossin however, was allegedly the one referenced in the email. With Raffa having a doctor’s appointment of his own, Fletcher allegedly asked McCrossin if he would accompany three players – Sean Couturier, Patrick Brown, and Joel Farabee, to a visit with the orthopedist. Upon return, Tortorella allegedly berated and belittled McCrossin again for being around the players after he had explicitly told him to stay away previously. According to the source, Tortorella was unaware that Fletcher had signed off on McCrossin’s participation with the players that day.

Hopefully DJ Smith, but especially fuckin Jack Capuano are gone before the team sinks too deep, even in kids hockey they know that if there’s 3 people challenging a player with the puck on the boards in their zone that means 2 are sitting in the slot wide open. Frustrating that nothing has changed since they came in.

Adding Giroux and DeBrincat rules and obviously it’s early, but the team did nothing to address the gaping wound at defense. The solution isn’t sitting somebody for Nikita Zaitsev either
