Just from the outside, Tumblr these days looks a little bit like SA. Not in culture or technology, but these days they survive on the moderate amount of users who are still around from when they were a big deal, and the monetization is basically "our users will pay for dumb poo poo if it's funny" plus some ads. Bit of a shame it took years of dotcom-era style chaos and wasted money to find their true calling, but good on them for managing to scale down to a sustainable operation in the end. (Tho I've never spent time on tumblr so maybe my interpretation here is way off?)
