I've been doing my rewatch before the 60th whenever I'm caring for our newborn to let my wife (who has never seen a single second of Doctor Who) get some rest and I swear she only comes in at the weirdest out of context moments like the "Here Comes the Drums" music cue or earlier on walking in on the farting aliens. She must think this show is utterly insane

The_Doctor posted:That is… not great. Bit Thunderbirds, VERY James Bond. The bassoon farting throughout is an odd note. Yeah, without context I'm not loving it.

Going through this mammoth piece of work on Youtube. I know longform video essays aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I have to applaud him for giving almost an hour per actor's era (a few times well over an hour). Definitely an example of someone rising above "just a Youtuber" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqpgpED8mXc He's only up to Matt Smith (which is 2 hours) but it's a great watch/listen

Class3KillStorm posted:Wasn't Smith the one modern-era Doctor who actually changed his whole style of dress periodically, though? Like, Tennant and Capaldi had variations on themes, but Smith had the multiple tweed jackets, the purple long coat getup, the burgundy coat he wore for most of "The Time of the Doctor," the three-piece suit he wore in "The Crimson Horror"... Yup, Smith had 2 distinct tweed jackets and then like jisforjosh fucked around with this message at 21:55 on Oct 18, 2023 |

I may be getting my hopes up with this, but am I wrong to be thinking we're going to be seeing more than just Ncuti and Tennant as the Doctor during the specials? All the secrecy around the 2nd episode has my mind going.

Finally finished Heaven Sent in my rewatch, which I hadn't seen since it's original airing, and Moffat can be so drat frustrating. He's capable of some amazing scripts and stories that my mind tends to gravitate to when I think back on what is Doctor Who. Heaven Sent is quite possibly my favorite episode of the entire revival and Capaldi absolutely knocks it out of the park in a incarnation defining performance...but then Hell Bent... Give me a season of co-showrunners between RTD and Moffat; they are capable of some amazing scripts and Moffat's Season 5 is one of the best across the board but I feel they're both at their best with editors or just another voice keeping them in line a bit.

Fresh off the end of Series 5 in 2010, riding the high of Moffat's 1st season, I sought out more of his work and decided to watch Jekyll...and I feel insane looking up the show now and seeing 8/10 and 4.5/5 stars
