I find it actually a bit worrying that Russia didn't do anything noteworthy today, no showoff of any kind. But then again they also didn't do that much on December 24th or 25th, when Ukraine was having a western Christmas holidays opposed to Russian ones, or in the New Year's eve. EDIT: 1 hour to midnight at Moscow. Der Kyhe fucked around with this message at 21:04 on Feb 24, 2023 |

Kallikaa posted:The thing is that Sweden has the short range version IRIS-T SLS , LVRBS 98 in local nomenclature, not the medium range IRIS-T SLM that Ukraine got from Germany. The Swedish defence minster wrote "Sweden will also supply much needed components to the IRIS-T air defence system. In cooperation with Germany this enables a boost of the capacity of IRIS-T in Ukraine". Isn't the front end of both missiles identical, with the only different part being the rocket motor? If they can acquire the rocket motors from somewhere, conversion to longer range shouldn't be impossible.

It would be nice to see a few Leopards and Bradleys arrive in the nick of time to save Bakhmut like the Rohirrim in the Two Towers. With Russia gaining that additional village in the north of Bakhmut, it seems the situation is getting significantly worse.

Yes, Russia got another village north of Bakhmut, but then again, they only got *a* village north of Bakhmut. A place that is mostly a Russian graveyard; Ukraine can withdraw if it gets too bad for them.

zone posted:https://twitter.com/OlgaOfUzhhorod/status/1628778489930297345 I'm constantly bewildered by these stunts. Who films these and thinks "Yep, this is a great look for us"? Moreover who the gently caress watches these and think "Oh nice" or "Well that seems fair compensation for a killed relative in a totally justified military operation"? How can any Russian see these and not be saddened and/or livid? I would think that if modern western nations treated fallen soldiers' families this badly people would be furious and out in the streets. I guess that's the power of Putin's private police/military? I guess they can't do anything about it.

Re: India I think most westerners really underestimate how uninterested even highly educated indians are in global politics outside their immediate region or even in history beyond learning the names of the freedom fighters. I'm currently in Hyderabad and one of the things that always floors me is that nobody, literally not a single person gives a poo poo about anything that has happened in the last 100 years that isn't covered in their rather flimsy secondary school history curriculum. For instance: I know several people whom were born in the 50s who don't know a thing about operation polo. I would think that if the Indian government rolled into your city and put 100,000 people to the sword 7 years before you were born you would have at least heard something. The narrative here is just fundamentally different. Not that I understand even what that narrative is but if I figure it out ill let yall know.

They could easily rival China, they could easily start a world war, they can easily make any number of things but they seem to mostly focus on hating each other. EDIT: EU used to be this exact same poo poo between France, Germany, (UK,) and the rest, but thanks to Tsar Putin, it seems that we found a common ground. At least mostly and for now.
