Mercury_Storm posted:Also, Facebook's "steal literally all your data" Threads app comes out in two days, so I'm sure people will be jumping all over that. At least until their iPhone tells them that it's going to steal all their data, maybe. https://www.independent.ie/business...1927220337.html Not in Europe, we won't. This also makes hard to steal Twitter's user base, at least right away.

Shrecknet posted:Since it's pulling from all of Instagram's users, it already knows who are "brand" accounts, and heavily promotes them. And since there's no way to curate your timeline or even see "just people I follow," the default/forced experience is "you must scroll by @Wendys to have a chance to see your buddy's surfing photos." They added a followers feed a few days ago. You have to tap the logo at the top to see it.

https://firesky.tv/ Speaking of firehoses, did you know that Bluesky has a public API, and you can read every skeet in real time at the link above? All we need is for someone to code a public web client using the API.

Remember Cohost, the non-profit Twitter replacement that received a lot of hype back in the day? Turns out they were funded almost entirely by loans from a rich friend, and now the friend has stopped responding to e-mails.https://cohost.org/staff/post/5023717-march-2024-financial posted:as discussed above, we have been dependent on a single funder throughout ASSC's history. the way funding is structured is through a series of promissory notes issued by the company to our funder — essentially collateralized loans from them to us. they DO NOT own any actual equity in ASSC (this is important to us as a worker-owned co-op); we’re ultimately responsible only for paying the principal on the loans as well as a small amount of interest, then we own the company free and clear. the collateral on these loans is IP rights on ASSC's output. barring a renegotiation on these terms, if we default on the loans then our funder will have ownership over the cohost software.

https://cohost.org/staff/post/5101727-end-of-week-financia I can't stop following the Cohost drama. They've managed to secure enough new subscribers and funding offers to keep the lights on for another six months. Instead of trying to save money in any way, they plan to scale up revenue to keep paying themselves competitive tech salaries. Within six months. I wouldn't bet on it, but who knows!
