Hey, I had that car! It is so fun to drive, though I got rid of it when I stopped having a work commute. Such a cute little zoomy car. My 6 year old still calls all sports cars Miatas :)

• Curb my bullshit spending on collectibles.
Ehhhhhhh, bought a couple of things, but there's still a lot less mail coming to the house. Wishlists are where the "maybe" items continue to die, browsed selling sites a bit more this month too so I should probably use that time for other poo poo, tbh.

• Get a raise next October.
Got a random raise out of nowhere on my start date so ????

Personal

• Get to bed on time, bitch.
Okayish, maybe? A couple of midnights and a 2 am bedtime snuck in there though.

• No new craft projects or mediums.
8 projects completed. Progress made on a couple of projects currently underway.

• Buy no more than 5 video games.
4/5 purchased, danger Will Robinson! Hopefully I don't stumble across any more games I think I want this year. TotK hype got me.

• Beat 5 games, read 5 books, watch 5 DVDs.
3/5 games.
5/5 5/10 books. Mostly got coffee table type books left to look at. Looking forward to a guilt free purchase of a new book sometime soon!
4/5 DVDs.

• Games experienced.
8 video games tried.

• Keep decluttering.
Kinda mostly took a break last month, started again on the last day of May with something small: cleaning out all the "found objects" and doodads I'm totally gonna make into art and jewelry any day now, yep. Real talk; since I've gotten back into doing crafts the direction I want to go in has changed since I collected all that stuff (or had it foist upon me) and a good chunk of it I wonder why I kept in the first place as I still can't come up with a use for it a decade later.

• Play more bass.
Lol I should be doing this instead of posting, poo poo got busy as always. Even when I had a break from lesson social obligations sucked up all that extra time. Le sigh.

• Cook more often/ find new recipes.
Maybe I should drop this and try again next year? It ain't happened yet.

Kind of a maintenance month really. Also since I bitched too much to a friend about my goals this year I got linked to this CGP Grey video which makes a case for having an overall theme for a year/season instead of specific goals and metrics. It's totally opposite to the OP advice I copy pasted and I can see how it may work better for people, but I've been doing pretty okay with the specific poo poo I set out for myself. Maybe I just picked too much crap to try and do and that's my problem?

The private practice is still waiting on most of the insurance companies to certify and approve, but she's going to start seeing her first patients this week. Published something, so that's one goal down. The only unfortunate news is that my insurance company hasn't agreed to a deal with the local HMO, so all my doctors and specialists are about to be out-of-network starting on July 1st. Not really sure what we're going to do about that - starting over with a new team of doctors is a bit intimidating for me and my spouse, but not sure what we're going to do instead.

May Update

Yet again AGAIN, I have travel plans. Going on the 70K Tons of Metal Cruise in January and had to get a ticket before they all got bought up. :black101: Trondheim Beerfest flight & hotel are paid for; cat-sitting hasn't been bought yet for either trip, so next month's travel budget is probably going to look weird too, unless I just use my checking account to pay for it, which I just might.

Financial

- $8,000 new apartment
Crossing this out. I moved, and I'm here, and that's all. :toot:

- $5,000 travel $1,980.86 to go
- $20,000 emergency $8,023.34 to go
- $5,000 bills $-1,312.09 to go :toot: (again, pondering adding some of the surplus to the travel account, because why not?)

Personal (habits)

- get out of bed before 10am at least six days a week
Still going strong, to the point that it's not even anything I actively think about anymore. :sun:

- walk at least one mile a day at least six days a week
Still not really a routine, especially if I'm not going somewhere specific. Speaking of which...

- limit five takeout/order-in meals a week
If anything, I've gotten even worse at this. In the time between June 1 (the date that I fully intended to check back in, but forgot) and now, I've spent $162.14 on delivery/takeout, and that's only what I can see in my checking account, no cash. This feels like an addiction.

- listen to at least 3 hours of NRK Alltid Nyheter a day (jeg må øve! :norway:)
Listening is becoming much more of a habit, but again, three hours feels like a lot. It doesn't help that NRK Nyheter switches to BBC World Service in the evening & on Sundays so I pretty much have to listen during work (meh) and on Saturdays (fine, but it's only one day a week).

Personal (one-timers)

- buy a new computer
DONE. A nice little Acer TravelMate. :)

- have my fibroids removed (or the whole uterus, whatever works)
- have my wisdom teeth removed
drat it, I can't find a good time, not for any procedures OR recovery.

- buy a drat vacuum
This will be done by the next check-in. (UPDATE: god drat it  )

I seem to also be really bad at both achieving and updating my goals this year :(

- Pension Pot £112k

- Short Term Savings £5000 - I dipped into this to do some repairs on my partner's mum's car (as this is now pretty much a vehicle maintenance pot now) and got the fence at the back of the garden fixed like a real adult
- NW £150k

The only Personal Achievement I managed aside from working two weekends between the last two bank holiday straight was take some time off in lieu last week to go and watch the cricket at Lord's

DOLF IS RECHTVAARDIG
Looks like I forgot to update this late last month. Lots have been happening, so my mind was elsewhere.

May update

Financial:
  • Replace my side job income with a bonus I get from working in-office in my main job
Less bonus this month because I was already working home a bit more for my renovation. Side job income was better in May than in most other months, but it's still drying up.
  • Pay off my home renovation loan in full (around €18400 after this month's upcoming payment)
currently at € 14156.59. I haven't made any extra payments (from my tax refund or vacation allowance) because I'm prioritizing actual renovation expenditures first.
  • Contribute the maximum in my private tax-advantaged retirement account.
Another 133.54 contributed automatically. A law was recently passed that will 5x my max allowed tax-advantaged retirement contributions. It may come into effect later this year, but I'm not going to bother with this until next year, unless I have a lot of time to get all the details figured out later this year.
  • Keep my emergency fund at €10k (no effort, just avoid emergencies!)
    It's at 10k
  • Keep my apartment fund at €10k. It can go over, and currently is, awaiting renovation bills and furniture purchases
I had to dip in a bit more because of the renovation. The contractor who had his guys do the doors and windowsills offered to also do all the wall and plaster stuff, so I decided to go for it. Otherwise, it would have been months, leading to delay with the floor and other stuff as well. The house account is still over 10k, though: 13809.95, and I've already paid 5k out of a total 10k for the current reno work

Apartment:
  • Get all walls and floors done so I can move my bed into the bigger (now empty) bedroom
Doors are now in place, awaiting finishing and painting. Floors in the bedroom have been closed again after electrical work. New windowsills have been cut to size but not yet fixed to the walls.
  • Get electricity for that bedroom and the balcony done so I'll later be able to get an induction range in the kitchen (long story, stupid setup)
    Done
  • Get plumbing for my washer and dryer where I want it
    no progress

Projects:
  • Finish and launch at least one software project, even if it's only for me to use myself
    No progress here.
  • Help a friend finish and launch at least one project, probably a cookbook
Working (slowly) on her third cookbook.

Life/general:
  • Finish a book every month. I used to be a book a week guy, I need to get back on the horse
Failed this one this month, because the book I'd chosen is just loving boring: Darwin's dangerous idea. I wanted to read it because it belonged to a friend who died last year, but I hate it as much as he did. I've now started reading Sallust's Jugurthine War, which is a lot shorter and is a fun story. It's a very old-fashioned translation, though, so the actual reading is a slog.
  • Cook for other people at least once a month
Failed this too. The reno work means my house is too chaotic to invite people to
  • Take two vacations
Planning to take a few days for myself when I travel to Lithuania next month, and planning to do the same when I need to go to Thailand. And then there's another trip to Spain after the worst Summer heat's gone. Maybe this year I'll finally go up a tier in KLM's frequent flyer program.
  • At least four hours of exercise every week, measured in fitbit move minutes.
Now that the weather's consistently decent, I'm biking to the office every day, and hitting this with ease.

Financial
  • Get emergency fund/liquid cash savings to $2000. - Fund at $300 (down $105 month-over-month). Not on pace.

  • Decrease total debt by $20,000 - Total debt up $48,050 for the year (down $2,350 month-over-month). Goal shot.

Actually ran out of Wegovy yesterday (these shortages are a motherfucker), and while my pharmacy is estimating that more might be available next week, they've been saying "next week" for the past three weeks. So I'll be dealing with the come-down off of that, and hopefully maintaining my current weight through it.

  • Complete >104 units in Duolingo's Spanish course - 90 units remaining (2 units completed this month). Still going, even though: Goal shot.

  • Read >12 books (at least one in Spanish) - 1 book finished this month. I finally completed Truman Capote's Other Voices, Other Rooms. I still hate Capote, even if chapter 8 of the book is good enough to almost make up for the rest of it being so bad. 2 total read for the year. Not on pace.

  • Run a <10:00 mile again - My best 1 mile run time this month was 11:07, down 32 seconds from last month's best and down 27 seconds from my previous best for the year. Almost on pace.

I tried two recipes this month! One was eh, the other was a keeper once I get it it perfected.

Another month of plodding along but made some small gains. I think I'll feel better about the financial situation if I work out a plan for putting some extra money into my savings once in a while. June Update

Still trying to keep things on the up & up but here's the thing: getting burns all over my hand either before or after having a seizure in the same day meant 1) making less progress on my emergency savings (MRIs are expensive even WITH insurance :patriot:), and 2) making less progress on my takeout/order-in stuff (I couldn't use my dominant hand to cook). Also, just for the record, I finally bought cat-sitting for the Trondheim trip, and with the fact that I bought 70K Tons tickets this month I decided that contributing to the travel savings wouldn't make sense since I took care of travel expenses with my checking account.

Financial

- I can now Play Clocks By Coldplay (and a few other chord based/easy right hand pop) - so pretty much on the edge of requiring a teacher as per the piano thread's advice before I start getting into bad habits

Despite market conditions I think I've been doing ok in the last 6 months - Short Term Savings have been hit with use of my partner's mum's car and have set about fixing some of the issues with that (and fuelling/taxing/insuring/MOTing it) so all in all could be a lot worse

DOLF IS RECHTVAARDIG
My renovation turned pretty chaotic, so I'm missing goals left and right, but at least my house is going to look great.
May update

Financial:
  • Replace my side job income with a bonus I get from working in-office in my main job
Side project still slowly drying up, in-office bonus not quite at replacement level, but in general I'm happy with the combined income level.
  • Pay off my home renovation loan in full (around €18400 after this month's upcoming payment)
currently at € 13859.34. No extra payments because I've been putting the money into the renovation itself.
  • Contribute the maximum in my private tax-advantaged retirement account.
Another 133.54 contributed automatically. Nothing's going to happen here, this will just be what happens every month.
  • Keep my emergency fund at €10k (no effort, just avoid emergencies!)
    It's at 10k
  • Keep my apartment fund at €10k.
It's at €1600. Yeah, almost depleted. I spent all of it on work on my apartment, and I'm kind of happy with it. It's going to take a few months to rebuild (I'm going to keep 3k in a current account and 7k in a savings account), and I've got my actual emergency fund for actual emergencies that may come up. I think this was money well spent.

Apartment:
  • Get all walls and floors done so I can move my bed into the bigger (now empty) bedroom
Doors are done and painted. New windowsills ready. Almost all walls have been replastered to get rid of the 1970s pattern that was on there:

The old plaster wasn't really fixed to the wall in a way that made sense and broke off every time I drilled into it, so now it's all much better. I hired out the laying of the new floor, mostly because they included removal of the old stuff plus some other renovation garbage in their quote, and living on the 17th floor, that's an offer I couldn't pass up. There are now people in my apartment laying the new floor as we speak. They say it'll be done today, but I think it's going to take a few more days.

  • Get electricity for that bedroom and the balcony done so I'll later be able to get an induction range in the kitchen (long story, stupid setup)
    Done
  • Get plumbing for my washer and dryer where I want it
I'm going to postpone this until I've built up a bit of a buffer again

I finished Sallust's Jugurthine War. Cool back about a cool period, and this war is usually kind of glossed over in favor of the civil war and germanic invasion.
It was a horrible translation, though. Translated 70ish years ago by a guy who wanted to keep the Latin sentence structure intact as much as possible. The result is sentences that run a quarter of a page, punctuation that makes no sense and sentences that violate Dutch grammar or syntax completely.

  • Cook for other people at least once a month
Failed again. Dust, paint and no floor makes it hard to have guests over
  • Take two vacations
    Still on track for this
  • At least four hours of exercise every week, measured in fitbit move minutes.
Moving around furniture in the Summer heat and biking to the office every day made this one easy to hit.

Financial Goals:
Continue to max out my 401k On Track
Help my spouse set up a retirement solution Waiting on this
Pay off at least half of home renovation loans. On Track - 82% paid off
Support my spouse to set up her private practice full time Done
Cut our discretionary spending back by 5% ($150/month) Done

Personal Goals:
Take better care of my physical and mental health Off Track
Upgrade my first job (job search, interview, etc.) Done
Publish something Done

I almost forgot about this thread. The home renovation is going ahead and might actually be wrapping up, which would be great if it actually happened. We've been going through this process since last year, and I'm just really, really tired of not having a kitchen. Our contractor is great but I'm convinced that he's not good at project management, and this project was just a little bit too big for him without someone to keep him on task. As I mentioned, the budget increased after we made some big changes like raising the ceilings. I didn't have to take out any additional loans to pay for the extra work, but between paying for that and supporting my spouse after she was laid off, I haven't had much money to spare on paying down the loans. Well, I'm finally over that hump, and I think in the next month or two I'll be in a position to pay down the loans and build up some momentum.

My insurance provider and my doctor's health network managed to reach a deal, so I don't have to change doctors. That said, I need to get another appointment set up. But, one less thing to worry about even if I'm not quite back on track yet.

Ha, got beaten to the punch with an early July update, I'm needing to sit and collect my thoughts a bit.

Overall: hoard money to buy a house. This feels shot. The market's too high and is outstripping my ability to afford it. So much so that a possible tentative deal I had on for a house just officially fell through and I'm bummed about it. In response I've increased my 401k contribution back up to 15%, and I think next year at minimum I'm gonna try and palm slam my tax return into my neglected IRA. At least save for some nebulous future.

• Add 13k to my savings.
On pace with $250 a week. Added an extra $200, woo.

• Curb my bullshit spending on collectibles.
Fell off the band wagon a bit, I'm gonna have to institute an eBay moratorium. Maybe start small and try to not buy poo poo off of there for like a month?

• Get a raise next October.
Got a random raise out of nowhere on my start date so ????

Personal

• Get to bed on time, bitch.
Eh kinda holding steady, fell off of this with a couple 1 ams in the past few days.

• No new craft projects or mediums.
11 projects completed. Got some of the small projects finished. Still quite a pile of crap to make and finish (I doubt this will ever diminish tbh).

• Buy no more than 5 video games.
4/5 purchased.

• Beat 5 games, read 5 books, watch 5 DVDs.
3/5 games.
5/5 8/10 books.
4/5 DVDs.

• Games experienced.
8 video games tried.

• Keep decluttering.
Still dumping small things into a donate box, like keychain level small. Also I've almost run out of things that are worthwhile to sell, so soon there will be no more "bonus cash" coming in. The current project is to weed out the record and CD collection as I definitely over bought when embarking on it, so I've been listening to albums I own that I've been on the fence about for years. It's harder than you'd expect to only keep the things that warrant a "hell yes" and get rid of anything merely okay or that I have any doubts over listening to it again. The stack to dump at the local record shop is still slowly growing at least.

• Play more bass.
There's never enough practice time, holding steady with a once a week practice, I'd like to up it to two times a week at least.

• Cook more often/ find new recipes.
No new recipes this month, but just did a two day marathon of cooking with old ones.

Overall I'm just extremely dismayed that I can't seem to get ahead on anything with out going full austerity and never buying anything fun again. :geno:

Beautiful People Club

July Update. At this point I'm just doing this as self-flagellation.

I gave a friend $2000 on a handshake agreement that he would pay me back all that + extra on September 1st. The money was to let him upgrade one of the vending machines that he operates to a new unit that takes CC payments. He had avoided having CC-capable machines for a long time but when one of his older machines died the only unit he could replace it with was CC-capable. After the upgrade he was shocked at how much more money the new machine was pulling in, and that was at one of his weaker locations. So he realized he needed some more money to upgrade the machine at one of his more lucrative locations. My cash helped him do that upgrade. Come September 1st I'll either get all my money back, he'll ghost me, or he'll try to press me to fold that money in with some more of my cash to buy a whole new machine/location. He's already floated the idea of me buying a new machine/location where I'd put up the initial capital, he/his company would service/operate the machine, and we would split the income 60/40 in my favor. We'll see what ends up happening.

Financial
  • Get emergency fund/liquid cash savings to $2000. - Fund at $105 (down $185 month-over-month). Goal shot.

  • Decrease total debt by $20,000 - Total debt up $47,000 for the year (down $1,050 month-over-month). Goal shot.

  • Max out company match on 401k - Still on auto.

  • Max out my work's charity donation matching. (For real this time!) - Still on auto.

  • Put down the 50% deposit on villa rental for 2024 Costa Rica trip (stretch goal: also buy the plane tickets). - Done in January. (plane tickets tbd)

  • Maintain $0 in CC debt - Goal shot.

Life
  • Lose 50-55 pounds - July average weight was down 44.5 pounds from beginning of year. This is up 3.85 pounds from last month. The Wegovy shortage hit me hard and I ended up off the stuff for the majority of this month. I can definitely feel the struggle to maintain the weight loss when my sense of hunger was climbing back to its old, insanely-high level. Fortunately, I'm back on a new dose now and things are starting to drop again. On pace.

  • Complete >104 units in Duolingo's Spanish course - 87 units remaining (3 units completed this month). Goal shot, but I'm having fun.

  • Read >12 books (at least one in Spanish) - 1 book finished this month. I read André Leon Talley's The Chiffon Trenches. An absolutely amazing and essential read if you want to truly understand the fashion world. 3 books read for the year. Not on pace.

  • Deadlift 400 pounds again - Finally had a day where I actually maxed this out. Current 1 rep max is 365#. It's a bit lower than I hoped, but I think I can make up those last 35# in the next 5 months. Almost on pace.

  • Run a <10:00 mile again - Haven't beaten last month's best time of 11:07. It's hot as gently caress down here and it's hard to run outside. Gonna keep going, though, and hopefully the numbers will improve once it cools down in October. Kinda on pace.

  • Take an actual vacation (as in, at least 3 days of PTO and going to another city) - Done in February.

Market has taken an upturn this month but think I'm going to have to reconsider goals next year to not be NW oriented as that figure is starting to fluctuate more from money out of my hands than in

I've booked in two weeks of leave this month so now just need to go and find somewhere to relax a bit!

I think switching away from a NW goal is a good idea. It’s not really in your control. On the one hand in a bull market you can hit the goal without changing any behavior at all! But in a bear market, you can crank up the savings rate and still miss. I shifted a little while back and instead focused on an absolute savings rate goal, which is much more within my control.

July update

Financial:
  • Replace my side job income with a bonus I get from working in-office in my main job
Getting there. Still a mix of side job and office bonus.
  • Pay off my home renovation loan in full (around €18400 after this month's upcoming payment)
Currently at 13562.09. No extra payments made because my renovation was super expensive
  • Contribute the maximum in my private tax-advantaged retirement account.
    Another 133.54 contributed automatically.
  • Keep my emergency fund at €10k (no effort, just avoid emergencies!)
    It's at 10k
  • Keep my apartment fund at €10k.
It's at 3k, and I'm building it back up.

Apartment:
  • Get all walls and floors done so I can move my bed into the bigger (now empty) bedroom
All done. My general contractor isn't happy about some things his subcontractors have done so he's going to change some things himself, but at least that's not going to cost me any more money.
  • Get electricity for that bedroom and the balcony done so I'll later be able to get an induction range in the kitchen (long story, stupid setup)
    Done
  • Get plumbing for my washer and dryer where I want it
I've recently decided I'm not going to bother with a separate place for my washer and dryer and I'll move the whole setup into the bathroom where there's already plumbing. I don't have a ton of space, so I'm going to have to move my shower into the bath tub rather than have them separate like now. Anyway, those are future problems for now.

Projects:
  • Finish and launch at least one software project, even if it's only for me to use myself
    No news
  • Help a friend finish and launch at least one project, probably a cookbook
The third (tapas) cookbook is nearing completion.

Life/general:
  • Finish a book every month. I used to be a book a week guy, I need to get back on the horse
Finished The Fortune Men by Nadifa Mohamed. Good book. Sad (and true) story. I didn't know much about the diversity of Cardiff in the 1950s, and now I do. I'm still one book behind from a prior month, but I'll make it up sometime soon.
  • Cook for other people at least once a month
Renovation and then travel made this impossible
  • Take two vacations
I'm enjoying my business trip in Lithuania right now. Feels like I vacation and my days off haven't even started yet.
  • At least four hours of exercise every week, measured in fitbit move minutes.
Easily hitting this. Biking at home, doing a lot of walking in Vilnius

The Lumbering but Unstoppable Sasquatch of the Appalachians

Nur_Neerg posted:

Just starting to figure out my financial goals for 2023 after a bunch of changes in the personal life. Putting this here as a placeholder/starting point: Updates to-date in bold

Financial

-Save $35,000 over the year; part to extend the emergency fund out to 6 months, the rest toward a down payment. In Progress: $16,000 saved up so far, on track for another $17,000, so will at least come close.
-Aiming for a 10% raise or promotion w/ 20% raise in the spring, would increase the amount above by somewhere around 10-20k. Got a smaller raise than expected, ~7%, but also got a random travel award bonus from my boss, so that's nice. Still shooting for a proper promotion in the near future and have been receiving feedback it could be early fall or this upcoming spring.
-Pay proper attention to the budget again. This has been much better this year :)
-Pay off the last few thousand dollars of my car loan. Made a few one-off additional payments from sale of my second car and RSU bonuses vesting. Car will be totally paid off by end of year if I continue making regular payments only.

Personal

-Take a 2-3 week vacation to Japan using only points for flight and lodging. Gonna consider this mostly a success; international flights and most hotels paid for with points, one week of hotels in Sapporo paid for with a combination of $150 and travel reimbursement from work. Going October 10-31 :D
-Figure out somewhere to go for a week to use my work's travel/fitness reimbursement w/o spending my own cash. Going to be using this primarily to cover the above hotel delta, and toward a trip next year to Europe for myself, my mom, and my brother's family when my niece graduates college.
-Get better at cooking regularly on the cheap to cut down on monthly food costs and increase savings. Doing better here, but need to improve more and get some cheap staple meals on the regular cooking schedule.
-Get back into the habit of airbrushing (models, maybe food too?) Has not happened, though I've made progress on improving my ventilation setup to be usable indoors, and have some projects in mind now.
-Properly prioritize self care in the form of whatever medical visits are necessary, but also just generally being much more active (rowing, walking, biking.) Have gotten regular appointments back on the calendar, still need to find a PCP and would like to start seeing a therapist to see what kind of benefits I could get there. Am now rowing three days a week and walking for at least 30-45 minutes every day I'm not.
-Learn to knit because I've been meaning to for years. I've made multiple pairs of socks, some hats, some scarves so far; this is WAY too satisfying.

• Buy no more than 5 video games.
5/5 purchased. I guess I should count rebuying Monster Hunter Rise on Steam, but I have at least played it for a decent amount of time. Gonna hold off on putting it in the games experienced until I am deeper in it and drop off or actually beat it somehow.

• Beat 5 games, read 5 books, watch 5 DVDs.
3/5 games.
5/5 8/10 books.
4/5 DVDs.

8 video games tried.

• Keep decluttering.
Dumped a good three inch stack of records and a further dozen CDs at the record shop, not quite to my goal amount of records (two cabinet shelves) but I will return to this clean out later. Have a wad of sweaters to go donate as I began examining what my cold weather clothes are like before we get into fall. Once in a while I stumble across an object worth taking the time to sell, but that is few and far between these days. Just sold a figure today in fact.

• Play more bass.

• Cook more often/ find new recipes.

A very good read that first seemed like it was going to be a bit too try-hard but ended up very moving and effective. 4 books read for the year. Not on pace.

  • Deadlift 400 pounds again - Really fell off my workouts and didn't max out this month, so 365# is still my best for the year. Not on pace.

  • Run a <10:00 mile again - Still haven't beaten July's best time of 11:07. The heat has still been absolutely oppressive. I need to move from running once a week to twice a week if I want to close this gap. Not on pace.

  • Take an actual vacation (as in, at least 3 days of PTO and going to another city) - Done in February.

Crossing this out. I moved, and I'm here, and that's all. :toot:

- $5,000 travel $1,789.04 to go
- $20,000 emergency $7,957.87 to go
- $5,000 bills $-1,020.92 to go :toot: (thinking about treating myself to an apartment cleaning and/or dispersing the surplus among my other savings accounts)

Personal (habits)

- get out of bed before 10am at least six days a week
It's still a habit that I take seriously, but I most certainly did not follow it while I was on a beer- & foodfest-centered vacation.

- walk at least one mile a day at least six days a week
Still not really a routine, especially if I'm not going somewhere specific.

- limit five takeout/order-in meals a week
I was on a beer- & foodfest-centered vacation, so nope. :btroll:

- listen to at least 3 hours of NRK Alltid Nyheter a day (jeg må øve! :norway:)
I spent an entire week communicating almost entirely in Norwegian, so I think that counts. Kinda.

Personal (one-timers)

- buy a new computer
DONE. A nice little Acer TravelMate. :)

- have my fibroids removed (or the whole uterus, whatever works)
- have my wisdom teeth removed
Especially now that I have other medical poo poo on my plate, I can't find a good time for any non-burn/-brain procedures OR recovery.

- buy a drat vacuum
DONE. A handvac, designed to handle pet hair too.

What, drawn, and talk of peace! I hate the word, As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee

Financial Goals:
Continue to max out my 401k On Track
Help my spouse set up a retirement solution Not Happening
Pay off at least half of home renovation loans. Off Track - 74% paid off
Support my spouse to set up her private practice full time Done
Cut our discretionary spending back by 5% ($150/month) Done

Personal Goals:
Take better care of my physical and mental health On Track
Upgrade my first job (job search, interview, etc.) Done
Publish something Done

In an attempt to get the home renovation over the finish line, we hired a second contractor to handle the floor tiling and to help our first contractor. It didn't increase the budget too much, and helped speed up the progress significantly (a frank conversation with the contractor where he admitted that he was taking other jobs on the side because he felt bad asking for the rest of the money before the job was completed also helped). I don't think I'm going to hit my goal of paying off half the home renovation loans unless I pick up the pace significantly in the final months of the year, but I'm still happy with getting a third paid off. Between my spouse's layoff and the increased budget for the renovation, I'm still happy I've been able to pay off as much as I have. That said, my wife's practice has really taken off and she's already started a pretty significant amount of income. She's still waiting on the first round of payments from the insurance companies to come through and paying off a lot of the start-up costs that accrued over the year, so we're still on just my income for the moment. There's a lot of uncertainty and the holidays could be expensive, but I might be able to pull it off.
