If Wilson doesn't make a big improvement in the second half this is about as good as the Jets could do for next year.

I don't recall the score and clock situation on that play, but I can only assume it was to purposefully avoid scoring.

According to the announcers, he went down to avoid being tackled from behind. They didn't need the TD, the game was already in the bag with the first down.

That was a stupid, stupid, stupid game. But it was a game where almost everything that could go wrong did - lovely calls, flukey turnovers, guys getting banged up, run defense turning intangible - and they still would have had a chance to win it without that garbage roughing the passer call*. That's not bad for a game where the football gods collectively decided to smite us. NFCE Clownball reigns supreme, Go Birds, etc.

*Seriously, tho, dude trying to twist Goedert's head like The Exorcist doesn't get a flag, but Brandon Graham trying to pull up on a QB who randomly decided to kneel does? Yeah, OK.

seems pretty cut and dry that a player falling to the ground to take a knee is informing the defense that they are giving up and as such cannot be hit afterwards

I think the problem may have been that it was in such a weird spot that Graham just messed up. We're used to QBs taking a knee under center but not scrambling for several seconds and then taking one. I can't remember the last time I've seen anything like that. Doesn"t excuse the Eagles but it was odd

Very dumb people in the comments speculating on how QBs are now going to use this forbidden knowledge to draw flags by kneeling milliseconds before some defender creams them.
