I. M. Gei posted:We are probably gonna drop at least one of our last two games, and I feel like a lot of the good will Sark built up over the first half of the season is gonna evaporate if that happens. Especially if Bama and OU continue to look like rear end. Yeah, I think a lot of where Sark stands will depend on the results of the last 2 games + bowl. Big difference between 8-4, 7-5, and (gulp) 6-6 in year 2. There's plenty of evidence to make a case that the team is headed in the right direction overall -- players are actually showing development all over the roster, nobody seems to be quitting on the field like they did last year, a bunch of freshmen are playing, which helps excuse/explain inconsistency, recruiting is good, etc. -- but at some point you have to win some games. At this point, it seems like Sark the program manager is way outperforming Sark the gameday coach and Sark the playcaller, which is funny given his reputation as offensive mastermind staggering genius savant. Or maybe it's just that Quinn Ewers is not that good. Or just a freshman learning on the job. (Or both?) I saw a funny comparison that draws out how Ewers has really been struggling late in the season: Casey Thompson (2021): 261 passes for 2,113 yards - 8.1 ypa, 24 TD/9 INT Quinn Ewers (2022): 212 passes for 1,507 yards - 7.1 ypa, 13 TD/6 INT

I feel like I can’t really rally against Tennessee getting a spot after we lost to Alabama and got ours last year. I don’t think it would change things just I feel like a conference champion should get the nod.

I see the logic in letting a team with better wins over a conference champion, if the champion in question won in a comparatively lovely conference with a much lower strength of schedule. I say this as a Tennessee fan who genuinely doesn't know poo poo about college football conferences outside of God's own conference, the SEC.

If LSU wins the championship they should absolutely get in over us, I do not believe that a team that didn’t even win its own division should get in over a team that won its conference. Even though we did beat them they have an extra game over us and oh yeah it’s the championship beating the #1 team.

It will be interesting to see the the committee justify putting LSU into the playoff after denying the same to Penn State in 2016. They had made it absolutely clear they were not going to put a 2 lost team into the playoff. Penn State lost a close one to Pitt early in the season, like LSU did to a comparable FSU. LSU got blown out by Tennessee at home and Penn State got blown out by Michigan on the road. edit: I do think the reason that LSU is ranked ahead of USC right now is because the committee will put LSU into the playoff if they upset Georgia, and Georgia (if 12-1) will also go to the playoffs. Of course that thought is based on UGA and us both winning out. nate fisher fucked around with this message at 16:29 on Nov 16, 2022 |

If Georgia and Tennessee win out and USC and TCU both lose, then we're going to see a two Big Ten two SEC playoff. This is suboptimal from a spectator perspective, but I would hope they don't put the rematches in the first round. Georgia vs. Michigan Ohio State vs. Tennessee Then there's a solid chance there won't be a rematch for the championship. Selfishly, I'd love this scenario because it means that Penn State will draw Oregon or USC in the Rose Bowl.

They jumped out to an early lead and got to tee off on Hooker on obvious passing downs. 5 of those 6 sacks came in the second half when Tennessee was already down three scores, and 3 of the 6 came in the fourth quarter when Georgia had a three TD lead. Georgia has a great defense but the pass rush isn’t a relative strength and the teams LSU played recently have been consistently better than Georgia at getting after the QB. I still expect LSU to lose but that’s because Georgia is just a better team at most positions. Pass rush is probably the one place LSU is better.

UGA also hasn’t been doing traditional blitz plays as much as just trying to collapse the pocket and apply pressure by only rushing 3. Obviously a sack is great but the overall defense is working because we are still only allowing like 10.7 a game.
