Every year I try switching over to DDG as my primary search engine but the results take more time to sift through because I think google has me trained to expect things in a certain order, but maybe if I use DDG ‘it’s those little changes won’t be as bad? Then when it comes to serious searches, like figuring out how to get Great Qing to drop state religion in V3, I just avoid the hassle and try my initial search on Google.

the boolean operators barely work if at all. it's my default search engine but i keep going back to google. google hates me for my opinion on respecting data but i'll keep using that poo poo

I tried using DDG a few times and it keeps giving me the mobile version of sites when I'm on my desktop. I guess I could look around the settings but it shouldn't be happening in the first place so gently caress it.

the reverse image search on here is actually pretty good. doesn't always know what you're looking for, but when it does it does a good job. regular image search seems like it gets less stock photo poo poo too

I’ve been using Bing as of recent and lmao at myself for this, YouTube for any reviews on something I need to buy. I used DDG for a few months very recently. I was often dissatisfied with the results and would often end up doing the search on Google to make sure I wasn't missing anything, defeating the point I guess. One thing I did come to realize is even though I like to type searches into the search bar I often end up using the same few sites anyway from the results. The best option I found is creating yourself a good personalized start page with all the stuff you regularly use, and also using something like searx for searching where you can set which engines it uses. I was looking for information on some Fallout 4 stuff the other week and every time I googled about it I'd just get random listicles of sidequests you don't want to miss or coolest companions or whatever that provided no details to what I was looking for, had to either go straight to digging through a wiki, which is fine I mean it's tried and true, or appending reddit to the search to find a thread of people talking about the thing I was curious about.
