Even recent winners are often built around a core of club teammates, like Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) and Germany (Bayern). Chemistry is really important in football and it's impossible to build in a week or two of training before a big tournament. Apparently they also paused their league season a few weeks back so they could get a proper training camp in unlike pretty much every other side.
