Looking at the caps, and how many of them play in the same teams, you would think this plays a big part into their success A lot of the best international teams are built around players that play their club football together. Even recent winners are often built around a core of club teammates, like Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) and Germany (Bayern). Chemistry is really important in football and it's impossible to build in a week or two of training before a big tournament.
