Best pure receiving TE probably Kelce, though Gronk had games he just dominated

Full package TE (aka with blocking) Gronk all the way though

If next year both guys were available in the draft, but I had the knowledge of the players they’d develop into, I’m taking Gronk.

Kelce cause gently caress the Pats

Also you don't need a TE who can block when you have Mahomes in the backfield. Maybe if Gronk wasn't blocking so much he could still be padding his stats against the rest of the AFC East instead of being broken down at 33

Who needs on-field skills when you can dance like this?

Fun Shoe
Gronk was certainly better at manhandling people, but Kelce is just a wizard at finding a way to be open at crucial moments.

Neither guy will surpass Tony Gonzalez in individual stats, so they're fighting for second place, at best.

This is hilariously stupid and not true. Kelce is one of the better blocking TEs in the league and it's been proven a dozen times over. Get that Kittle fan BS out of here

This is almost as dumb as the Gronk or Graham debate of 2011-2014.

It’s Gronk and it’s not close. Gronk could block as well as a dedicated right tackle. He routinely owned prime Suggs.

Trick question but Kelce since he is still playing. Kelce is better right now than Gronk is, so I'd rather have him on my team.

Who had a better career is a different question. I'd say Gronk for sheer terror factor.

Gronk managed to be the more dangerous TE on the same depth chart as Aaron Hernandez

They say, "you mean it's just sounds?" thinking that for something to just be a sound is to be useless, whereas I love sounds just as they are, and I have no need for them to be anything more than what they are.

Did this count? It's cool, but it doesn't look like a catch to my layman's eyes.

Obviously I’m biased but whatever. But comparing any other tight end to Gronk is just off the mark. Because he’s just a freak athletic specimen. The sensible contemporary comparison, and the debatable matchup of who was at the time the greatest non-QB offensive player in football, was between Gronk and Megatron.

Both scored the go ahead touchdown in the super bowl only for their defense to choke the game away in the final couple minutes. In consecutive years.

I've never heard anything about Kelce's health, could he go for a while more? That'll change things if he really pulls away in volume stats.

Gronk will still have it on peak, though

He’s been pretty healthy his whole career AFAIK. But at some point you lose a step at that position. It’s an imperfect comparison but for reference here’s the stats for Tony Gonzalez’s very famously lengthy career.

He was 37 in his final season there.

kiimo

I watched every play Tony Gonzalez had before going to the Falcons and he could never dominate a game like Kelce. He was Very Good for a long time.

I don't think he's top three in TE

Gronk didn't have the longevity, but he's the best "modern" tight end in NFL history IMO. Better than Witten, better than Gonzalez.

No one was as big and strong and fast, no one had that catch radius or contested catch skill. No one else could block like that.

That's a bit overboard- he's better than average among your high-volume receiving TEs- which means he's OK and going to get his rear end beat sometimes.

I still cannot believe the defensive alignment
the Pats put out for this play. They put out the hands team when there was absolutely zero chance the Dolphins were gonna throw a Hail Mary just from the basic physics of how far a human being can reliably throw a football. To reach the end zone that ball would need to travel about 75 air yards.
