gently caress it, I'm hoping Andor's Iran get through and an act of God strikes the other three teams out of existence.

I can understand Southgate being upset with the first Iran goal because that level of concentration slipping in a knockout game could be costly, and he tries to instil a real miserly/fortress defence mentality, starting with Pickford getting annoyed at doing his job. That we saw that game out the way we did was shocking though.

Starsfan posted:if Iran draws the US doesn't that mean they automatically lose out? the US and either England or Wales would be guaranteed to have more points than them If Wales beats England and Iran draws the US then it would come down to goal differential for those three teams which probably would mean Iran out. So I guess if Wales beats England then Iran realistically has to win to advance but otherwise they just need a draw

Someone on Reddit will do the ‘who goes through’ matrix but I think it’d take Wales winning by a margin of four or more goals against England for goal difference to come into contention.

Ginette Reno posted:It'd matter mostly for Iran and only if they drew against the US. England is probably in even with a loss unless they get killed. Yeah. If US-Iran isn't a draw, winner is in along with England, unless Wales wins by 4 or more, in which case winner is in with Wales. If US and Iran draw, US is out and Iran is on 4 points and -2 GD, so then it only matters if Wales wins and by how much, because all three teams will be on 4.

US was pressing well and had Rice in a shadow most of the time to force the ball to Maguire to distribute. Maguire was pretty good otherwise but had some loving laughers trying to go through the first line, I can’t believe the US actually tactically imposed themselves on England lol
