if youre talking about a thickness planer, all the reviews say the dewalt one is best so i bought one and it was unconscionably loud - no power tool has any reason to be that loud. Went through two layers of earpro like nothin. I sold it off, i cant take that kind of noise.

woodworking power tools are ok but they cant kick up too much dust or be too noisy. This is why routers are the worst power tools.

i got one of those pocket sized hand tool rescue wrenches and its neat but also you can drill a hole in the bottom so the screw on it tightens down on a 1/4" hex bit and it works great imo

if the question is "why dont you just hold the bit in the jaws of the wrench" my response is "because the jaws dont stay real parallel and the bit slips sideways easily"

a chainsaw is one of those tools i’d use once or twice so i can’t justify buying one. i’ve got a lovely invasive common buckthorn on the corner of my house though and drat would it feel good to rip it down and paint the stump in herbicide.

i've never noticed this tree before but the pix i see make it seem like they're on the small side, like 4-6" trunk max? If so you absolutely dont need a chainsaw, just get a pruning saw or just a plain old big handsaw and go to town. Take maybe 20 minutes.

somethign liek this, shouldn't cost more than $20.

yeah they're great. I wish i could find little ungrounded ones for as cheap as you can get these big burly ones for - cause like 90% of the use case is for lil wall warts - but whatever.

what's the scale here exactly

like it's right up there for potential to maim, but it does do good work. lots of things that a router is good at that would take forever with any other tool.

i think the worst tool is the panel saw because ours is unbelievably loud and annoying.

or maybe the jointer, which is like you fed a moon stone to a table router and it evolved into something far scarier.

insanely loud, spits out massive amounts of dust, easy to lose a finger or two, ruins your work instantly if you slip, etc

jointers suck too but at least they're not sawdust producing machines, you just get a pile of loose shavings to sweep up

table saw: kickback, pulls hand into blade
jointer: eats your entire arm
router: happy to take a finger off as it pulls your hands into the cutter
radial arm saw: oh jesus
bandsaw: like yeah if you deliberately push your hand into the blade it'll cut it but just dont do that
