I have a Husker Du tattoo and a guy on the bus with a Black Flag tattoo challenged me to recognise it and got angry that I did and asked me to name three songs then called me gay for liking Husker Du. On the topic of punk, I realised recently that I don't think I've ever liked anyone from the whole SoCal scene despite being a bit of a punk nerd. I like weirdos and art-school drop outs from dying industrial towns and people who skateboard and leave the house are just not my people. So a local venue used to have a guy selling used vinyl off to the side, so you could paw through records during the openers or whatever. Anyway my friend and I show up early to a Jello and the Melvins show and because I did some sound work there I knew a few guys and we were hanging out before doors officially opened. We're pawing through the vinyl next to some old guy, when suddenly this old guy says "oh my god, I haven't seen this record in ages!" and we realized we were shuffling through records with Jello himself. That voice, it ain't an act folks.

The girls picked up Ray was in a band and when asked what band, he pointed to me and said "he'll tell you", knowing I'd enthusiastically nerd out about DK - a pretty good flirting move, but kinda lovely. I realised what he was doing about half way through talking about DK, but couldn't really back out. As soon as the girls left the table, his whole demeanour changed, but when they were about, he was gracious and engaged. He also said "namaste" without irony. It was fun. Oh, and it must be mentioned, whilst I know that Ironic Racism is still racism, the name of the song makes it pretty clear that they are making fun of the man and his mindset.
