I thought he was such a massive dick to work with they didn't want him there Yeah, since he was banned for being a huge rear end in a top hat, he has made several cameos (1999, Bill Murray; 2001, Seann William Scott; 2007, Seth Rogen, 2013, Justin Timberlake), and on both the 25th and 40th anniversary shows. He can drop by, he's just not allowed to be there all week.

Got my WU pin. My SNL pins from the past few years. I ordered the Stefan matryoshka pin, they sent the regular Stefon pin by accident, which is the only reason I own it. Not really my style

It's Christmastime at SNL, the best time of the year! And this week we're led by Austin Butler, with Lizzo pinch-hitting for Yeah Yeah Yeahs while Nick Zinner recovers from pneumonia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW5Nk1XN2H0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6WH-_8sg40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff__UDf5e-A Slightly different air version with alternate angle at end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmD3mqJk42E Also here's a quick look BtS at the Kenan pretape from a couple weeks ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LBuFLRho5Y Back to tonight. It just came down the wire during dress that tonight is Cecily's last show. https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1604299423760191488 A bit surprised, I was expecting her to ride out the season. That explains the mystery of why they shot the cast photo so early. Speaking of— And yeah we got your Wednesday read-through pics that you were clamoring for as well For Vintage, Kristen Wiig with Dua Lipa from December 19 2020.

Who do you think is the biggest star to have come from SNL? Just having this discussion with a few close friends. It's probably a heavily-loaded question, in that your answer might depend on your own age bracket and/or fondness for a certain era of SNL, plus on what metrics do you judge 'biggest star'? I honestly don't know much pre-90s, so I couldn't really make an opinion informed by the whole history of the show, but from what I've seen maybe it's Adam Sandler? Eddie Murphy?
|

Eddie is good. It could actually be RDJ.

Will Ferrell? Although maybe he's quite similar to Adam Sandler with stardom. Bunch of comedy movies that started great and went down hill. Could probably argue that Jimmy Fallon is one of the bigger stars since he's got a late night show going... SLICK GOKU BABY fucked around with this message at 04:39 on Dec 18, 2022 |

I like Ferrell way more than Sandler, but I picked the latter because I feel like he might have had more longevity in Hollywood than Will did, and his attempts at dramatic roles seem to be generally better-received. RDJ is something I always forget about, not to move the goalposts but wasn't he only on for like two seasons and universally hated as a cast member? He's definitely one of the biggest stars alive though. EDIT: Can't rule out Bill Murray either. If what I said in the first paragraph here is the criteria, I think his career blows Sandler's out of the water.

That's tough, because once you leave SNL, it's a roulette wheel chance you'll end up "successful" let alone "a big star" For every Bill Murray or Adam Sandler or Will Farrell, you end up with a "celebrity guest" spot like Cheri Oteri or Tim Meadows, and then if you really do fall off, you get a Chris Kattan or Victoria Jackson. Which makes you hope for the best for Kristin Wiig and Kate McKinnon, because the last thing I know Leslie Jones did was Coming to America 2 and the reboot of supermarket sweep

Not saying she doesn't deserve this final sketch, but they didn't even go this far for Kate, who was arguably more important to the cast

Codependent Poster posted:Man Sarah is gonna be a star Sarah Squirm is the biggest highlight of modern SNL, and I'm happy she's in many skits and worst case scenario, she becomes the new face of the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. I also really love James Austen Johnson but only because it's always cool to see a comedy actor grind it out for years and "finally make it". I don't know about Mikey Day anymore, and I feel Bowen is just waiting for a sitcom deal. This week's episode was "middle of the road" but only because I'm tired of the typical skits like "game show parody"and "fake talk show" and thought last week's with the body horror in Christmas Carol was hilarious.

I was sad that Colin and Michael didn't swap their lines. Was a pretty average episode of SNL, nothing really that special. But Lizzo is a pretty good musical guest, which is rare for SNL.

There was Joke Swap at dress I'm personally over JS, they basically do it every week anyway. Colin be racist is a well-entrenched trope by now.

I think it’s unfair to compare the stardoms of Chris Rock or Adam Sandler (even though the real answer is Steve Martin) with modern guys because the media landscape is so different. SNL doesn’t create stars anymore because it’s all too fractured. Wouldn’t be surprised if Bill Hader has the best crater of any modern guy though.

re: most successful alum the MCU has blown a giant hole in anything else, RDJ wins through those movies alone. of actual comedy actors, i think sandler takes the prize in a cakewalk. his movies not only gross a ton, they're insanely profitable as well since they're cheaper to make than superhero stuff

The_Doctor posted:SNL used to be the springboard to greater things, but with less big comedy movies, SNL is the top tier now. It seems that instead of being a lottery where one of the cast members occasionally becomes a star, SNL is now a solid source of supporting cast members/decent to good sitcoms/voice actors. A lot of past cast members just dropped off the face of the Earth after the show, but now most of them seem to go on to successful if not necessarily high-profile entertainment careers.

I'm watching last night's episode, and this Marzipan sketch is hilarious. The almost-dessert with the flavor of nuts, but the texture... of nuts! As much protein as a bite of steak. Kerman Thompson can make almost anything hilarious with his delivery. I shudder to think that this show will someday not have him in it.
