Super fuckin happy that dude thrived after the transfer. It was pretty clear he had something and was hosed over by his team last year, glad that turned out great. Another argument for the "every player should transfer at least once" argument.

This is from the last thread, regarding Penix, and I'm confused by how Indiana hosed him. He was well liked and the team was good when he was playing. He tore an ACL each of his first two seasons, and separated his throwing shoulder last season. You want them to give him a bionic arm or what?

There was some noise last year from idiots about starting Jack Tuttle instead after Penix threw a bunch of ugly interceptions the first few games, but no way was he not starting without the injury. I mean I guess they hosed him just by being Indiana and a generally bad program, but he at least had to know what he was getting into! I'm also glad he's doing well at Washington, maybe he'll get some draft prospects because of it.

It's that! Penix kept getting hurt as the line just couldn't protect him. It was obvious he had a lot of talent and was carrying Indiana, but he just couldn't stay healthy for a year and it was a huge bummer. Not really trying to poo poo on Indiana, or making GBS threads on Penix really. Kind of like how Bo Nix transferred out to Oregon and kinda found his happy place.

He probably should go pro, and a meniscus tear isn't a huge long-term deal. I'm just thankful he had tons of opportunity to show that he'll be fuckin good. dirty shrimp money
Jan 8, 2001

So I ran a special out of band dirty shrimp poll since it's playoff selection day tomorrow.

By my reckoning, if the committee rates teams more or less the same way they always do - value defense over offense, losing early is better than losing late, strength of schedule is important, and G5s basically start with one loss - then TCU and USC were so far ahead of their peers they should both still be in the field. TCU is easy to defend with their sole loss after beating every team in the Big 12 once, USC remains this high from their crazy +22 turnover margin (I guess I get to tweak that in the offseason), spectacular offense, and deck of Ws against a way better than normal Pac 12.

But we're going to get Ohio State and Alabama because :capitalism:

Yeah that's fair. It sucks, because Indiana had pretty decent offensive lines the years before he was there, and two straight NFL running backs. For a few years there it felt like if they could just had a year where they had all the groups together at once they could actually be competitive but it never happened. This year they're back to being just plain old bad of course.

I'll go ahead and say USC should still be in the playoffs if for no other reason than Ohio State already lost to a playoff team thus proving they are not as good as that team, and in a playoff with only 4 spots I think that should matter. OSU/Michigan should be treated as a defacto quarter final if you will.

i just think they should book the playoff spots before the conference title weekend so that you don't get punished for playing an extra game.

so going into this weekend it should've been communicated that hey UGA, UM, TCU, and USC have secured playoff berths and this weekend determines the 1-4 order and matchups.

if going into the final weekend there were 5 or 6 teams playing in the conf title game (so if USC was playing 1 loss Utah team) then it'd be communicated that these are the top 5 teams eligible for the playoffs and this weekend's matchups determine which of these 5 make it. none of this bullshit where non conference title players sneak in

Heisman folks need to at least invite Stetson. I don't know if he wins, but he is having a top 5 QBR season in a season when we don't throw passes after halfway through the third. We walloped LSU by 30 and threw five passes in the second half yesterday. That win sure felt good, now Ole Miss is the only SEC team that Kirby has lost to that is left and we get a bite at that apple next season.
