Satan's rectum year 2022 is almost over! Now it’s time to guess where our sport is heading in the year 2023, surely a year of nothing but naked frolicking on sun-kissed fields and never having to think about imminent nuclear devastation!

The old thread will run until the actual end of this year. We'll see who ”won” in 2022 then. I’d love it if you’d look through your own predictions and post what you got right and wrong. Thanks to the Forums Posters who've already posted their results! I'd ask you to check them once more after the year is over - provided something turned out to be true or untrue after all in these last few weeks of the year.

Anyway, here pretty much anything goes, you can predict match-ups and their outcomes, entire storylines, heel/face turns, championships changing hands, individual spots in matches, roster changes, injuries, retirements, debuts, PPV locations or lengths, it can be about what happens at the very first match of the year or maybe it'll be something we'll have to wait until December 31st 2023 for, it can be about one wrestler, one promotion or even trends in the medium of pro wrestling as a whole, star ratings, MOTYC/WMOTYC nominations - whatever you want, and don't limit yourself to the stuff I listed there. You can also make it as general or as specific as you like. People have taken very different approaches to predictions, check out last year’s predictions in the old thread.

Let’s predict then, shall we? Predictions can be posted until this year ends (+ a couple of days maybe), then I’ll dump everyone’s guesses into the second and third posts. You're allowed to edit your predictions however much you want until the deadline. :justpost: ’em and when you get something right during the course of the year you can post about it as well!!!

NJPW

- Tetsuya Naito finally has his moment winning the title and doing the roll call in front of cheering crowds
- Shota Umino becomes IWGP Champion
- Jake Lee, Tajiri and Yusuke Kodama show up as the basis of a new unit
- More of NJPW’s older guys get loaned out to other Japanese promotions and the American indies. Taichi works many AJPW shows
- Karl Fredericks returns to NJPW
- Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura return to Japan in the first half of the year
- Suzuki-gun wrap up but Bullet Club continue and have a big tenth anniversary celebration
- The Yokohama Arena Wrestle Kingdom is NOT a crossover with AEW but built around Keiji Mutoh’s final NJPW match
- They go up to a 32 man G1
- Lio Rush proves everyone wrong and is a reliable member of the NJPW roster
- Oleg Boltin has a very abbreviated young lion run and graduates or goes on excursion within months of his debut
- Some cult favourites will be dropped from the G1 to make way for the new blood. Taichi, Tomohiro Ishii, KENTA, YOSHI-HASHI and Yujiro Takahashi lose their spots. Chase Owens and Toru Yano inexplicably make the cut.
- Master Wato wins the junior four way at WK

Will try to think of some for other promotions

A Fancy Hat posted:

CM Punk will return to WWE for a very short run (5 matches tops) but won’t even finish that due to “backstage drama”. We’ll never find out the whole story but Punk will say his passion for pro wrestling was killed again.

NXT will return to being an online-only show focused mostly on getting new talent TV-ready.

AEW’s UK show will be headlined by PAC vs MJF for the world title.

Wrestlemania will not feature The Rock in any capacity, but WWE will keep “hinting” that he might be there, up until the show itself.

There will be a dedicated ROH show. It will be an hour long in a less than ideal time slot, but the first episode will have Jericho, FTR, and a returning Adam Cole in action.

We will get another Forbidden Door PPV this summer. It will take place in the US.

At some point in 2023 The Young Bucks will announce that 2024 will be their last year of being full-time wrestlers.

Lee Moriarty, Jungle Boy, Miro, Willow Nightingale, Best Friends, and Kris Statlander will all win titles in AEW.

Adam Cole will return to the ring.

Jeff Jarrett will be in a 5 star match in AEW, probably a multi-man tag match.

Cody Rhodes will be getting booed by the end of the year, possibly after having Brandi appear as an on-screen valet.

Jon Moxley finally gets to go on his vacation.

CM Punk isn't done with AEW and will wrestle Kenny Omega.

Satnam Singh and W. Morrissey will have a staredown.

Takeshita will win a title in AEW.

Sami Zayn will win the Royal Rumble and beat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania for the titles.

Bow Wow, Snoop Dogg and Sasha Banks will appear together on AEW tv. Sasha/Mercedes will have a program against Jade Cargill.

Bron Breaker will wrestle GUNTHER for the IC title.

Let me try some predictions:

WWE:

- Cody Rhodes wins the Rumble and beats Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania
- Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens beat the Usos for the tag team titles at some point.
- The Rock will actually appear at Wrestlemania! However, he'll just cut a promo and Rock Bottom LA Knight or somebody.
- Vince McMahon doesn't come back despite the recent humors, however...
- The WWE looks like they're finally getting fans to react to longer, better wrestling matches. Booking and storylines are still quite weird, though. Things seem to be steady for awhile until back to back to back scandals happen:
- It's revealed that Vince McMahon has some storyline and booking influence, but in exchange is allowing HHH to have longer matches
- Drake Wuertz is quietly rehired at some point, but is on a short leash, and keeps his head down and stays out of trouble, for now.
- Soon after Nikkita Lyons' call up, she botches and injures someone, then goes on a racist rant on Twitter. She is fired and ends up in XPW.
- The above three lead to lower ratings and attendance for the rest of the year.
- A bunch of call ups happen throughout the year. Out of those, Bron Breakker and Grayson Waller make strides and appear to be the best of the bunch. Pretty Deadly do well and end up starting a feud with Owens and Zayn.
- Lyons, Akira Tozawa, Dana Brooke, Mustafa Ali are the highest profile releases. It's mostly NXT wrestlers that get released in 2023. Thunder Rosa is brought in to feud with Becky Lynch.
- HHH wants to cut RAW to two hours, and use the third hour as a flashback/retro-style show. USA refuses.

AEW:

- Hangman Page beats MJF for the World Title, then MJF regains the title a couple months later. Eddie Kingston moves into the World Title scene, and him and MJF feud before the end of the year.
- Thunder Rosa and Miro leave. As said above, Rosa heads to WWE, but Miro goes to NJPW. Akira Tozawa and Mustafa Ali sign and thrive.
- Young Bucks and Kenny Omega continue to set the bar.
- Mick Foley makes a couple of appearances to fire up John Moxley, as Moxley is on the outside looking in at the World Title scene.
- FTR stay the whole year and beat the Acclaimed for the World Tag Team titles. They have the match of the year with the Young Bucks and the Lucha Bros, Meltz goes 6*.
- Ratings and attendance continue to climb, especially after WWE's troubles late in the year. They get a nice new deal to continue showing on TBS and TNT.
- AEW and WWE have a big bidding war for Maki Itoh. In the end, despite WWE throwing tons of money in her direction, she ends up being All Elite. She decided on AEW because they would let her use curse words on TV.

Misc:

- EC3 bets Tyrus for the NWA World Title. They feud throughout the year.
- Elon Musk tries to start up his own wrestling promotion to try to capitalize on AEW's momentum.
- Surprisingly, Meltzer only awards five matches 5 stars or higher. One match will leave everyone scratching their heads because it'd be between two wrestlers no one expects.
- CM Punk doesn't wrestle.

So. Predictions, in no real order.

Keiji Mutoh does not wrestle again this year after his big retirement match in NOAH.

Kota Ibushi turns up at at least 1 GanPro show this year. You'd assume Wrestle Sekigahara but I'd be hardly shocked if it was just a random Itabashi Green Hall event, it'sKita Ibushi, he's mercurial. He was in attendance at their most recent show.

This is one I'm shamelessly stealing from Jamie of the Dramatic DDT blog, but it's pretty plausible. GanPro introduce Tag Titles, and they are intergender belts.

The artist formerly known as Sasha Banks does not get a Is All Elite graphic. She might show up at some point but I don't see it as a regular.

Miyako Matsumoto is on Baka Gaijin + Friends show.

IT'S KZY TIME! Kzy wins the Open The Dream Gate belt at some point. Never stop believing.

One of the Prominence 5 retires. I'm thinking Mochi Natsumi but Akane Fujita & Risa Sera seem candidates. I hope I'm wrong with this one.

Cyberagent buys Big Japan. OK, swinging for the fences here. BJW doesn't seem like it can make any money, Takagi has talked about an Onita inspired promotion, it's not Prominence sadly so gently caress it, BJW. Unlikely but vaguely plausible?

Yuma Aoyagi, Triple Crown champion.

Voodoo Murders gently caress off, finally, from All Japan before year end

Always remember that the former President was dumber than the dumbest person you've ever met by a wide margin

AEW/ROH is the only promotion I feel comfortable enough making detailed predictions about

ROH will have a weekly slot on a Z tier cable network and HBO Max, it will do bulk tapings and 2-3 major PPV events a year. Honor Club will be folded into HBO Max

BBT will start ceding some booking control of the day to day to someone else probably Tony Shivonne

Miro will not be a major player in AEW going forward

Willow Nightengale will be TBS Champion (less sure if she's going to beat Jade for it)

Adam Cole will be back before the 4th of July

Juice Robinson will hold AEW gold at some point

Eddie Kingston will Not win the AEW Title

Takeshita will win All Atlantic Title and bring it to Japan and will have banger matches that will be inserted into Rampage.

These are bold predictions, stuff I'm less sure about

Tony Khan leaves AEW in all but backing the company financially from afar. This will be after a Twitter meltdown.

I might add more to this later. I'm not sure yet.

Would you be my new best friends?

I think I forgot to do this in 2022! So in 2023, here's a mixture of things I think might happen, that I wish will happen, that probably won't happen and that I really hope do NOT happen:

- WWE gets sold to NBC/Peacock before the next rights deal to avoid sinking all the money into an external company rather than just owning it themselves.
- All Japan agrees to sell to WWE but this gets the kibosh when NBC purchases WWE. All Japan collapses and its key wrestlers filter out to various Japanese promotions.
- NJPW and Stardom do at least 2 Crossover Shows in 2023.
- Shinsuke Nakamura will wrestle on at least one New Japan show.
- Bryan Danielson wrestles in the G1.
- Konosuke Takeshita becomes the All Atlantic Champion in AEW.
- Andrade El Idolo makes his return to WWE, is immediately paired with Santos Escobar. Reports will air before the end of the year that he isn't happy with how he is being booked.
- Miu Watanabe will win the Princess of Princess Championship.
- Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega reunite on a DDT show and wrestle at least one tag match on AEW, a PPV match against The Young Bucks.
- Taichi takes over Suzuki-Gun as their new leader, but it keeps the name and Suzuki remains a member, but now in a more background role.
- The longest reigning GHC Champion for NOAH in 2023 will be aged 50+ years old.
- CM Punk will return to WWE and wrestle on a Blood Money show in Saudi Arabia.

the young bucks will do an angle where they change their name to the (something else) bucks for a little while, different each night, and they will wrestle one match as the cm bucks

A PWG title will be defended on AEW programming.
Current Dragon Gate talent will show up on AEW programming.
Danielson versus ZSJ will finally happen on Dynamite.
Hayter and Britt will wrestle each other for the AEW Women's World Title and will still remain friends no matter how the match ends.
Jade Cargill will wrestle her first deathmatch.
At least one member of Prominence will show up in AEW.

And as a comedy prediction: WB makes John Cena show up on Dynamite with the threat of cancelling Peacemaker, if he doesn't.

Also, it'll be Takeshita versus Hijo Del Vikingo in the BOLA final.
