see, part of the problem is that there's such a narrative of pessimism, people mistakingly think that things are getting worse and that invites charismatic individuals who push for destroying the institutions of the enlightenment i think it's a terrible threat and one way to counter it is to note that problems are inevitable - we have no right to expect a perfect world - but that we have been chipping away at it! processes such as regulated markets, institutions of global cooperation... they haven't brought us a perfect world but they've brought us a much better one! if you add up a country's wealth score and subtract its poverty score, it continues to increase across the world
