Is this the space to ask about getting into Killteam? I've bought a box of Hearthkyn Salvagers and looking around to find that it's a team that needs a particular build to function. Looks like my options are to buy a second box of the killteam, a box of the regular squat warriors, or to magnetize my models. Which do you reccomend?

Context is my boardgame group picking up the hobby. So I don’t plan on bringing a tournament-level team but we’re still all competitive.

CYRAC just made a Hearthkyn guide! Unfortunately he's a bit of a stream of consciousness podcaster, but he's a top competitive player who's been trying to make Salvagers work.

Yeah he seems to strongly recommend two boxes and swapping between agents

GH crunched the numbers on Ceaseless v. P!, and the former is better against everything but 2+ saves, so I wouldn't worry about skipping the Ion Rifles

Is that with or without Ion Expediters? For 2 EP you get 4/5 Damage on your Ion Weapon

Oh still learning things, all I know is that one of the Votann specialists lets you get 5 EP, presumably even if you're not playing spec-ops

They got none of that Warhammer 40k excess in their design.

Different tastes, but I appreciate narratively that the Leagues seem to be one of the only factions that seem to have their heads on straight, and that they favor practicality over ornamentation. Plus, the basic sculpts have allowed for some really cool kitbashing.

I'll grant you revolver pump action bolt shotguns are the correct level of silly. They just need sweet filigree on 'em.

Hey, I'm noticing the two-pistol dwarf has glowing blue eyes. What's he got going on, you think?

The post above me caught a lot of my feelings (though I’d also love if they leaned in on subtly silly stuff like the Ironkyn robot wearing a fur coat), but I’ll comment on this instead. I’m guessing the Dwarf Leader might be part-psyker, since Grimnyr are often depicted with a glowing eye.

or he’s the Mr. Sans Undertale

hearthkyn salvagers are also an option

going to second this, new squats got my gal into 40k

Will third, the Salvager kit comes with 6 lady heads and 2 non-binary only binary robot heads, and you can do the rest with closed visors. Additionally their armor is a breeze to paint and looks great with vibrant colors

Downside, it's highly recommended to get two kits for salvagers for a full team with all your specialist options. You can get a fun & balanced team with one kit, but there's 14 different specialists in a box of 10 models.

Also, none of the gals have cool shades

Now I'm thinking, what if kill team had some kind of coop wave defense mode, similar to the tyranid thing for 40k that goonhammer was developing

Oh interesting, so like it would be a swarm of rippers and the occasional bigger 'nid? Gretchin and Orks, scarabs and Necrons. It'd have to be some low-level enemies and mindless enemies for sure, just because Killteam's balance currently favors the side with the most models.
