I'm referring to this year. Stefanski sucks and for the most "analytically advanced" organization they pull a cavalcade of stupid decisions.

I hope they keep baseball man and his hand picked staff forever

i am seriously curious about alec ingold though, because I know miami are supposed to have one of the worst rushing offenses in the nfl. but i checked his snap count and it wasn't super far off how much we use ricard. miami posters, does he just stay in as like a max protect blocker or something a bunch? or like he's in the backfield as a chip blocker because mostert/wilson or whoever isn't a great blocker?

There really isn't any good reason why Ingold should make it over Ricard. He's fine- I think it's probably just that the offense generates a lot more plays where the fullback's block is this relatively flashy and obvious component of success. Same thing with Juszczyk, nether one of them are nearly as dominant run blockers as Ricard, it's just that he's doing more dirty work that's harder to appreciate or highlight.

Juszcyk does a lot more as an actual runner and receiver though, he's basically a combo fullback/TE. He typically has more rushing and receiving yards each season than Ricard has had in his whole career, and plays quite a few more snaps, too. He does a lot more than run blocking.

Ingold flares out for receptions a decent amount, so he has a little more involvement on the offense.

lol. I think everyone suspected this was the case since there didn't seem to be any football reason for him to get repeatedly cut. But funny to hear it spelled out.

Yup.

Next week we're getting most of the slate on Saturday so that the players can be home with their families on Christmas.* :unsmith:

*Does not include the packers, Dolphins, Broncos, Rams, Buccs** and Cards.

thinking about when joe burrow threw the ball at a lineman's feet for intentional grounding acouple weeks ago. it reminded me and made me feel a lot like when carson palmer used to try to get defenders to jump offsides, and then he would snap the ball and kneel it or throw it down instead of trying to do a play or anything, and often the offside penalty wouldn't even be called in the first place and he wasted a play. i like the feeling

The Bengals are going to be playing Tom Brady minus their best and arguably only pass rush specialist and the only starting cornerback that's going to play is named Eli Apple. I'm still fairly confident they'll win. It's a brave new world my friends.

Oh absolutely, and I think the importance of the receiving of a fullback in Shanahan and McDaniel’s offenses are greater than their stat line- even if a guy like Juszcyk puts up modest numbers comparable to other starting eligible receivers what they do is hugely important to the success of the rest of the passing game outside of their own production- heightened run/pass conflict, the positioning to run routes to either side, etc.

That being said, even though the gap between Juszcyk and Ricard with the ball in their hands is basically no contest at all I think the gap between them as blockers is even bigger. Ricard is the best non-linemen blocker in the game and probably not really comparable to anyone who is even playing in recent memory. I’ll stop before anyone accuses me of being Greg Roman or whatever but Ricard is one of my favorite players in the league.

This makes sense. I was just curious as to what an FB's role looks like in an offense that has a sheer volume of passing like Miami's. But yeah I can imagine Ingold getting some highlight reel blocks on like a screen where he gets to pancake a DB or off-ball LB.
