Genuinely, A Christmas Story is the one our family has a tradition of watching. A sequel of sorts was made this year with some of the OG cast. I'm not yet sure if I want to watch it.

Asterite34 posted:It's a basic bitch choice because cable has oversaturated it around the holidays, but I kinda wanna still give it to A Christmas Story. It has a nice combination of cynical deadpan humor and genuine childhood sincerity. Plus from what I've gathered it bears a pretty good resemblance to my own dad's childhood growing up in the Midwest in the 50s, so it has a bit of a sentimental connection there. I'm UK based so it is fairly obscure over here. Heck, we only 'discovered' it because my Nanna saw a VHS copy in a bargain bin and got it, and my 12 year old self was bored enough at her house one February in 1992 to watch it. Funnily enough, I found my old diary yesterday, and I'd bothered to write my opinion on it. And also laugh at my nan's discomfort at going down the Fast Water slide at Sedgemoor Splash. precision posted:I'll say it. Christmas Vacation sucks. It's a pale rehash of the original Vacation with half as much cynicism and a shockingly pro-Capitalist rhetoric that is completely at odds with the entire weltschmertz of the first movie I don't think it sucks, but I tend to agree. Rather than subverting the hypercapitalist's paradise Christmas has become, it just reinforces it because Clark finds meaning in things rather than people. /mattchristman Muppet Christmas Carol is, I think, one of the best adaptations of Dickens' original story. Home Alone is also a good one. Before all the stuff came out about Spacey, I used to really like The Ref. Haven't seen it in ages.
