a friend told me to check out this cool leftist forum but when i first made my account here i found a cspam thread where everyone was talking about how cool joe biden was so i made a ban me. came back last spring on a whim and things are nicer now

Someone, probably on GameFAQs, mentioned it in 99. I needed sources to learn English since courses were out of equation and all I had was a dictionary. I found the front page and then I found the forums. I was interested in the forums from the moment I saw them but it took me until 2004 to get a credit card so that was it.

A link from the B3TA newsletter where a guy wrote a song about wanting to gently caress Keira Knightley, and another guy recorded it and sung it. I was 14 and found it very funny, I don't think it would stand the test of time though.

Iirc it was one of the GBS cyoas that I was reading at the time while logged out (either the deathcopter one or red, yellow, blue), and when the paywall came up, I decided to get an account. I had to ask my dad for his credit card though. My first exposure to the website itself though was a jeffk article (? I think) making fun of warcraft 3. I played it a lot back then and I think it was supposed to make the players mad, but I just thought it was stupid. Then I discovered Photoshop phridays and such, and I really liked those. I can’t recall the first time I found the site, although it was probably via Portal of Evil in ‘04. I do remember what got me to sign up was an ‘06 thread where  originated and  was used liberally in which a user was trying to determine who was catfishing them, back when doxxing seemed like an amusing passtime and not a hazard.

i started going to the frontpage in the early 2000s (mostly for flashtubs tbh) but either didn't know or care about the forums being there. a friend told me to register a few years later and i was drunk so i did it. gbs 1.0 wasn't really my bag so it wasn't until i stumbled across the politoons thread in lf that i started posting.
