I loving love street food videos. This is a great thread.

A couple years ago, I spent a couple weeks just searching "<country name> pancake" because I love crepe and had just heard about jianbing. Just watching all the different kinds of jianbing on the spinning cooker is awesome.

Here's an example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOcmUl8c7Sc

Here's another street food I love, Hungarian langos. Really more of a "street fair food" in my experience.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqcc1IoZ96A

Ok, if you're American, it's just fry bread, but the usual way to get it is to deep fry a bunch of bread, THEN brush it with butter, THEN cover it with a really garlicky sour cream, with shredded cheese on top of that. Absolutely delicious. I have only seen it in the US at a Hungarian cultural event, which I think is insane. Someone is going to get rich franchising it to festivals someday.

Back to Turkey we have gozleme. It's kind of like a spinach calzone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkTUEe1ctic

I've seen it made in person and you just watch a person, who makes it look easy, roll out an impossibly large and thin sheet of dough, fill it with spinach, and fold it into a little packet they put on the grill like in the video. Really fun to watch being made.

My Armenian great-grandmother used to make something very similar when I was a kid that I can’t remember the name of and yeah it’s basically the heat from your hand and some form of acid that “cooks” the meat, although it’s more similar to the way citrus “cooks” the raw seafood in ceviche.

Anyway it’s really tasty but I wouldn’t do it with grocery store ground meat.

I’m Armenian and my grandmother would make this for my grandfather and it creeped me out because of the raw meat factor.

My family is Turkish Armenian and it was called che kufta.

Now, lahmajoun and boreg, sign me up.

I like to watch this channel's videos now and then. There's a whole small youtube industry of channels that film street food and small shop vendors in Asia, and the food there always looks amazing.

I'm not really sure how people respond to this either. It's another weird seafood thing.

Now this, is technically not alive by most measures, it's dead and the the legs are just responding to the stimulus of the soy sauce because it's an electrolyte. What's more complicated is places where they kill and prepare the squid in public, and right after they cut off the mantle and rip out all the organs including the brain, the tentacles are still active and they can kinda just stand up the squid as a little display.

This probably isn't a meaningful addition, but I briefly did a look on youtube for some of the interesting Vietnamese eats I had overseas and I just was immediately inundated with previews of videos featuring click-baity "YOU WON'T BELIEVE THEY EAT THIS" bullshit lines while also showing clearly photoshopped pics of something that isn't in the actual video.

Which is my way of saying that I could never subject this thread to that poo poo :)

Youtube has been acting weird for me (keeps saying I'm disconnected even though other sites work fine) so I can't link any videos.

You should try searching for "Best ever food review vietnam."

Don't let the name fool you. The host - Sonny Side - is easily as charismatic as Anthony Bourdain and he usually hires locals to guide him. Vids range from 10min shorts to 2 hour documentaries.

He travels all over the Mid East and Africa too.

Choreg is amazing. Also Armenian string cheese and Basturma with pita. And agree on the dolma. Never cared for it.

They do some pretty clickbaity titles, but it's great. Aren't the two hour documentaries basically all of the 10-20 minute videos from a location edited into a longer form?
