global export of pizza is more from pizza hut and papa john's than it is from anything actually italian, sorry e: fb it's worth noting that there are no significant international chain pizza restaurants from italy. the most significant non-american one is actually thai, called the pizza company bob dobbs is dead fucked around with this message at 08:15 on Apr 4, 2024 |

The global spread of pizza has absolutely nothing to do with American chain restaurants. Lol, lmao

the spread of the pizza company, by the way, is basically a list of rich anti-american countries, because the american chains have sewn every other rich country up for chain pizza, pretty much

If your local pizzeria isn't owned and staffed by Greeks and/or Turkish immigrants, you don't have a real authentic pizzeria and I pity you.

It's very hard to find passable pad Thai where I live, it seems like they stir fry some rice noodles with chicken, toss some sprouts on top, and call it a day. Have you motherfuckers heard of tamarind

Al pastor on the trompo loving owns, but like kebab you need to do crazy volume to meet US health codes. There a good reason that processed ‘gyro meat’ is a thing, it’s precooked and you have a lot more flexibility. I’m not aware of any such thing for al pastor, they just cook it on the griddle instead.

Have you motherfuckers heard of tamarind Finding good Thai food in the US is a struggle. Pad thai is almost always the worst option though, it's just sugary and disgusting. Curries are usually acceptable since it's just paste from a jar like you'd probably be doing at home, hard to gently caress that up too bad. I just gave up and make Thai at home now.

Grand Fromage posted:It's pretty different. A lot of Mexican food is the original native food + these pigs and rice whitey brought over are pretty tasty. Iberia got new ingredients but didn't import much in the way of techniques. The Spaniards taught the locals to call all their flatbreads omelets. I guess if they had taught and spread any techniques that'd be fairly hard to track, because a lot of cooking techniques in general in the modern day tend to not be able to go much further than 200 years back before changing considerably. I guess the introduction of metallurgy had to have some kind of big net effect. steinrokkan posted:The global spread of pizza has absolutely nothing to do with American chain restaurants. Lol, lmao It might be a big part of the spread of pizza through Asia, since that was a lot more recent, but with most of pizza's spread it was just generally the spread of American culture (including northern Italy).

Just remembered that time many years ago when my family was visiting someone, and they offered to make popcorn. I got to watch a full grown adult pop a few kernels at a time in a frying pan. His mind was completely blown by a demonstration of popcorn-making in a lidded saucepan
