More marinade for the rotisserie, maybe a little less sauce on the end. I'm down for the roasted tofu on the outside edges, that looks good.
Paneer, not tofu, but yeah, it should be pretty tasty.

And catupiry is delicious, my goodness. It tastes like the creamy cheese in a decent mac & cheese. Maybe Stouffer's?

Like little veggie okonomiyaki bites. Drown 'em in sauce, mayo, nori, and bonito flakes, and I'm in.

I really find it charming when he offers the dinner a bite on a fork, and when our favorite rotund gentleman (I think that's who it was) fed bites of cheese to a foreign couple who just happened to be passing by. There's such a pride and pure joy in their food that they just have to share it, and something intimate about them actually feeding it to people, even if it's just one bite. There didn't seem to be any expectation of "now come in and buy something," either.

That said, I'm not sure how I'd feel if someone tried to do that to me.

One of my favorite foods ever was a shawarma completo from North African guys in southern Spain. It was a grilled wrap filled with shawarma, vegetables and the usual sauces, falafel, cheese, and a fried egg. I ate them 3 days a week and gained probably 3 pounds a week.
Worth it.

Takoyaki are mostly uncooked batter too, with a homeopathic amount of octopus. Never was a huge fan of them.
At least they're only bite-sized (if you let them cool a lot).

I was in Kyoto and Osaka last week; I heard the roasted-sweet-potato cart way down at the other end of our street as we approached our place after a very long day on our feet and fairly ran down after it. :3: Such a simple treat on a chilly autumn night, and not too easy to find like that.

Came back yesterday and today I'm on a clear liquid diet for tomorrow's colonoscopy. I might not come back to this thread till that's over with--makes me too drat hungry.

Yeah, that was bullshit. I do appreciate the scraping of the toast being shown as though it were an integral step in the process.

I saw a commercial very similar to this one way back after my first visit to Japan in 1994, and it made me an immediate, lifelong Doublesoft toast fan. So good.

An airport in Japan was selling locally caught mackerel bento, so my dumb rear end bought one thinking I would eat it during my domestic flight. I opened it up and immediately realized the error of my ways. Rather than subject my fellow passengers to the smell, I wolfed down the entire bento before we took off. I kind of don't regret it. Whether you savor it or house it, mackerel is so good.

That said, yeah, those sandwiches up there need some kind of condiment for moisture.

I haven't! Please do send anything my way in a PM, any time between now and next May. Hell, I might tack on a day or two in town to fit in more food. I know I'll be around some folks who know it pretty well.

Nowadays a lot of places in Japan use squid instead of octopus in takoyaki as a cost-saving measure, so you can enjoy it with even less guilt!

e: or you can do what my friend did for my now-husband on his very first trip to Japan and use cut-up hot dogs in his portion
