I bounced off FFXIII pretty hard, but I couldn't tell you why exactly - I played XIII-2 a lot and liked it a lot, though I don't think I ever finished it. Ultimately I think it was a party I wasn't hyper-invested in, with a plot that was kind of confusing, with gameplay that was just kind of okay, and no real mechanical freedom in a way that mattered, so I just lost interest. I didn't hate it, it just couldn't keep my attention because all of the things that drew me to the FF games - plot, or characters, or what I could do with Materia or Junctions or exploring around and finding secrets - simply weren't there in the way I needed them to be. Paradigms were kind of neat. I think they were my favorite part?
