I watched Rebel Moon. First 30 minutes or so was alright but then they go to assemble their team and it rapidly turns to poo poo. Jumps all over the place with very little in the way of establishing shots or dialogue about what they're doing. Reminded me of Last Skywalker in that regard. Snyder seemed to just want a vehicle for telling a bunch of sci-fi short stories he thought were cool. An indentured servant wins a bet with his master that he can tame some Harry Potter creature. A lady dressed like a witch kills a spider woman who's kidnapping children because the humans poisoned the environment and her eggs don't hatch. A disgraced former imperial general is now a coliseum fighter (not really a side quest with this one, they just show up and give him a pep talk). The main character is a murder machine, which takes the tension out of a lot of these side quests. It's clear she could just murder their way out if poo poo really hit the fan. There are a couple characterss who seem like they'll be important that are just completely dropped: the peaceful war robot and the garrison member who isn't down with the raping. Both left back at home, not players at all. There are a lot of fun costuming choices. Dude randomly in a top hat in their Mos Eisley scene. The big bad generals sometimes just wears regular ol' suit and tie. The witch outfit. It's oddly bloodless for how brutal the fighting is. Some neat ideas and weird stuff but all just style and no substance.

Also, the movie is just full of ripoffs. There's a Mos Eisley cantina. They do the big taming a wild flying beast from Avatar. The lady dressed as a witch has two lightsabers. The villain is undone in an extremely stupid way by his need to be theatrically cruel. They get into a big fight with the locals at the cantina because some creep wants to gently caress the lead's boy toy, which I guess is at least genderswapped from the usual trope, but there seems to be a bit of gay panic in it too? Oh, yeah, also there's a weird interesting idea where all the robots were trained for combat but were also fiercely loyal to the king. The king is killed before the movie, and the robots just stopped fighting altogether and became complete peaceniks. There's one who comes with the imperials to the farming village and starts wearing like flower crowns and stag antlers and poo poo. But then he ends a hostage standoff by shooting the last member of the imperial garrison. So there is this somewhat interesting idea of these robots finding a reason to start fighting again. I enjoyed 300 at the time but don't know if it would hold up today. I genuinely enjoyed Watchmen, I think it's his best film by far. Sucker punch was bad and creepy. Man of steel was alright, BvS and Justine league were 'fine'. Rebel moon was bad, this promised R rated cut might be 'fine', I don't see it making the film good though. He's a solid 6/10 director. 300 is still pretty entertaining, psychotic depiction of the Persians being a very large aside. I'd attribute that more to Frank Miller being the psychotic racist and Zack Snyder being slavish to the source material.

Before break they forgot to tell 2 of us we were closed so we were clocked in WFM shooting the poo poo, I was trying to tell him the dumb crap going on in the movie and he tried watching it too but stopped as soon as we hit the clock. It's not bad enough to really even be entertaining in that way. Funniest thing in movie to me was they did a big gryphon taming segment and Tarzan proves he's the number one animal boy... And they leave the bird. He was basically just showing off
