Yeah, its cool. Kinda Battle Brothers-y with the randomized characters and loot, perk trees, etc but geared more as a horde/tower defense. I liked it quite a bit.

Relatedly, another YOSPOS band did some stuff for ULTRAKILL:

It's great. I bought the DLC right away despite having no time to play it simply because I have 229 hours in The Last Spell so I figure the devs deserve my support (and I hope to get around to playing the DLC eventually).

That's Hi-Fi Rush done on the Normal difficulty. Listen, I'm not going to lie, all I did throughout the game was spam the 3x heavy attack + beat hit combo, while cycling through summons as fast as I could. BUT I got pretty good at doing this in sync with the rhythm, I have the achievement for finishing a stage with an S rank in every Chorus.

I was hoping for Peppermint and Chai to end up together, but it turns out she likes Korsica instead. The hell? I thought Korsica was supposed to be ancient. Don't worry Chai, you'll find someone who appreciates your obliviousness and ability to withstand extreme cartoon levels of punishment.

She's 32 and Peppermint is 23. The latter is already ancient in anime terms.

Also while I'm glad you enjoyed the game, because it assuredly deserves the praise, it was really funny to see you refer to it as a plucky little indie game at least 3 times because it's made by Tango Gameworks, subsidiary of Bethesda, subsidiary of ZeniMax, subsidiary of Microsoft.

The credits list 1,433 people. Now arguably that’s inflated since it includes stuff like all 80+ people who worked on the 2D animations, which were handled by a different company. But even if you limit it only to the names in the “Tango Gameworks” section, you still get 125 people working on the game. I don’t know exactly what the employee to ‘A’ conversion rate is but I think that puts them pretty solidly out of indie range.

I normally only play AAAA games such as Skull and Bones, but I made an exception for this one

Anyway, which of these games should I play next: STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order™, Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, Wasteland 3, or Persona 5? Cast your votes now.

Maybe Persona to get a change of pace from action? It's a long game but it should be straightforward enough to drop it and pick it up again over time, and fusing The Perfect Persona For Now is fun

You should play each of them for two hours over the next few days, and then pursue whichever one grabs you the most.

Yeah it's pretty good. Very hard too but you get a lot of room to choose your own difficulty. The DLC adds a sixth map and three weapons, among other stuff, I'm having a great time with it.

Or adopt my approach, where you play each of them for two hours over the next few days, and pursue none because you can't make a decision, and then get a new batch of games and play those for two hours over the next few days, and pursue none because you can't make a decision, and then get a new batch of.... :negative:

Look, it's simple, there are exactly three kinds of games.

Indie games: Made by as close as one guy as possible, never more than 10. Budget ideally never leaves the triple digits.

AAA: Slop made with tens of billions of dollars with tens of thousands of employees.

Video Games: this is the term for everything between those two extremes. Back in the old days this used to be the only kind of game there was.

Man, "Spectacle Fighter" and "Character Action Game" has to be the most misused tags on Steam.
Not only is it a genre that rarely has any releases at all, but most people don't even know what those terms mean, so you end up with absolute minuscule number of games that are correctly tagged, even if you generously include ULTRAKILL and the the likes in there.

What do those terms mean? Because they sound like microgenre nonsense.

It's the Devil May Cry/Bayonetta/Metal Gear Rising style games.

A sub-genre of beat'em'up/hack-n-slash action games that are highly technical and include some sort style scoring system.

Aha. Those games seemed pretty hot for a while back in the day, kinda surprised it's taken this long for a term to come about for them actually.

Looks like it's a tie between Jedi and Persona 5 (one vote each). I like the argument that Jedi is short, after Wrath of the Righteous I don't necessarily want a super long and involved game. This is the playable one, right, it's only the sequel that makes your computer explode?
