I heard good things about Rogue Trader when it first came out but then I heard it suffers in the final quarter of the game or so, like they tripped up for a deadline or something. But I also heard there was a big new patch recently so I have no idea - anybody played to the end since then and can comment? The story and world aspects seemed quite cool, I'm not interested in mechanics and just play everything on easy but I do love a good story and world

This does seem to be the consensus in the dedicated thread. Fortunately I never get more than halfway through one of these big CRPGs so it will not be an issue for me

Most memorable for me is what changes can happen on the table about an arsonist starting a terror campaign against a city.

Physics are realistic while not pissing me off like most other pinball games. Still get a kick that that approach also combines with the game being the only pinball type with a violence rating.

With how embarrassing the title is, the game's promotional campaign was even worse. The developer had been made a division of 3d Realms. Their tie in based on Duke Nukem 3d is noticeable for having fewer things end up happening. Makes for the types of advertisements you would expect.

Re: No Rest For The Wicked, I thought the art was gorgeous and the first real area (beach) seemed well-designed and interesting and cool to explore.
Everything else ranged from meh to weird to annoying:

- I don't like the fixed camera angle--that's subjective, but it's annoying to me when I can't get a better camera angle to look at things and do actions. It also makes platforming way more difficult than it would be otherwise.

- Weapon/item/tool durability sucks rear end. Especially when you lose durability upon death.

- Jumping is weird. There's not a dedicated jump button, and jumping happens when you sprint/dodge (sprint = hold, dodge = tap) toward a gap or drop-off of some kind...except it seems inconsistent to me. I had multiple times where I'd make a jump and then the next time I tried it, I wouldn't make it, and I couldn't figure out why. I jumped across a gap to one enemy the first time I tried it, and I spent 10 minutes trying to reach the same dude a second time after dying.

- Everything just feels kinda sluggish. Movement and combat both--just doesn't feel super responsive.

- Weird-rear end control scheme--right trigger is gesture? wtf? Also no way to remap controls currently on console or PC, which is always a buzzkill for me.

- Talking to NPCs--sometimes when you're in conversation if you hit A, dialogue will continues with additional responses until things start to repeat once dialogue is exhausted, like you'd expect. But sometimes when you hit A, the conversation will end and you have to start up the conversation again to get the rest of the dialogue.

- Parrying seemed terrible. Perhaps at least partially a skill issue--I'm not the best at it, but can do it at least decently in Souls-like games. I never could figure out if I was hitting the button too early or too late or if the window was just tiny.

- Perhaps the thing that pissed me off the most--you equip weapons and armor for the ship-board tutorial. Once you shipwreck and end up on the beach, you lose your previously-equipped weapons and armor. I spent literally an hour wandering around that area killing poo poo with my fists and never found a weapon the whole time. I watched a streamer and he got a weapon almost immediately as a drop from a fallen enemy (that I killed as well), so I'm not sure if it's a bug or just lovely RNG.

Anyway, I'm refunding--it just felt like a chore to play and I wasn't enjoying it.

I tried the demo and enjoyed the first level, but the second one was really long and didn't seem to build much on the first one. Vibes are great, though.

I've been playing Code Vein. I was not prepared for how anime this game is. The "grimdark apocalypse/horny techno-goth vampires" aesthetic is kinda unique, I guess?

As a game it is... merely okay. Controls feel kinda jank, the game loves to use its own terminology instead of established RPG conventions, everything has huge hitboxes.

I tried Code Vein for a while but eventually dropped it, like, after not-Anor-Londo iirc. There was some vaguely interesting stuff in terms of builds, but I seem to remember it being busywork ranking stuff just to be able to use it in another build later. And the story/cutscenes were really really terribly anime and didn't help.

Had a good laugh at the pole dancer boss, though.

I tried Code Vein and couldn't get over that even if you were swinging a giant Guts sword it felt like there was no weight behind anything. Some of the best parts of Monster Hunter & Dark Souls & Nioh are how weighty things feel and how different weapons make you change up your playstyle, and it didn't feel like Code Vein really had that.
