MORT cancels dance: interrupted by MORT

Young Freud posted:

Why does the Speaker have to be 218? Why can't it be just simple majority? Seems like the party with the most cohesion and unity should be the ones to run things.

218 is a simple majority. Do you mean a plurality?

MORT cancels dance: interrupted by MORT

Where did you go to high school? In my Calgary high school, we certainly had an SRO. I don't believe we had one in junior high, but maybe we should've because there was a serial sexual abuser teaching there who didn't get exposed until decades later and it turns out the administration was covering it up!

It's not like the SRO would have helped that situation.

MORT cancels dance: interrupted by MORT

Leon Trotsky 2012 posted:

Here's an interesting poll from YouGov about opinions on regulation of various industries.

"Regulation" is incredibly vague, so you can't really draw any specific policy conclusions from it. But, it is kind of an interesting temperature gauge.

The Republican responses being incredibly pro-regulation for porn, weed, and news media are funny, but not surprising.

The one surprising thing to me is the weirdly extreme views on not regulating the fashion and textile industries among Republicans. It is by far the one industry they say they oppose new regulations on.

Really not sure where the near unanimity on that issue comes from.

Gambling regulation and regulation of higher education seem to be the most divisive issues for both parties.

Maybe it's all the pro-sweatshop propaganda out there?
