Humanity's real enemy is me!

Kino's Journey 2003 was one of the most important things I encountered as a teenager, it really was life-changing to watch. I still think episode 2 is basically a perfect short story. The imagery of the snow, the rabbits, the slave traders sitting around a fire playing a sad tune, the ring they give Kino, and the fight behind the truck are just terrific.

i kind of get the impression that the newer version that came out a few years ago is closer to the source material in tone. it wasn't horrible or anything but felt much more like an action adventure story, with kino as a kind of rugged ubermensch individualist. The 2003 version's strange, thoughtful meditation on the imperfect nature of the world is just exceedingly lovely. Ryuutarou Nakamura was a real one.
