AEW Dynamite 01/11/23 MOTYC Bryan Danielson vs. Konosuke Takeshita Superb action from one of the best to ever do it and a sure nuff rising star phenom. Trust me, you'll want to watch it. Triangulo de la Muerte (c) vs. The Elite (Escalera de la Muerte) Just wall to wall insane spots that kept me on the edge of my seat. The whole series between these two teams was great, but I think this might be the standout.

The whole top half of the card was good but the semi and main really stood out. The semi is just some beautiful junior tag stuff. Starts with a sick brawl up in the stairs at Korakuen. Crowd was super hot for Catch 2/2 and hell, same. Akira lives up to his fireball nickname. There was a conversation recently about New Japan's young guys and I think a lot of their foreign talent is already doing sick matches like this one in their 20s. Beautiful finishing stretch. I could see these guys running it back with plenty more to show. The main event, god drat. Jun Kasai tells a story with his death matches more than anyone I've seen. I've seen guys come in, bleed all over the place, use up a thousand dollars worth of light tubes, but barely sell anything and then someone hits their finisher and the match is over. Violent spectacle for sure, but Kasai builds his matches different. All the guys were really into it but the relationship between Desperado and Kasai is what elevated it to MotYC. If you're all right with blood but never vibed with death matches, give this one a shot. And Mox and Despy gotta do this again tomorrow, what the hell.

I think this happened with at least four suplexes, one F5 at ringside, and one F5 to the announce table. I thought my feed had hosed up and kept replaying bits. The main event was another weirdly paced match with the wrestlers doing maybe one move every two minutes or so. And the ending is yet another twist in the Bloodline story which I guess sets it up to run at least another year or so. That's what I get for tuning into WWE out of morbid curiosity.

Marvelous at Korakuen Hall 08/07 HM: Mio Momono (c) vs Mayumi Ozaki AAAW Title Match Watched this show on a whim after wanting to check out some more Joshi promotions. I remember liking a match between Momono and Chihiro Hashimoto so I was rooting for the champ here. I wasn't familiar with Ozaki, but she held the AAAW title during its initial run back in 2000. So this is a bit like the hardened vet returning to rain on the young champ's parade. It's a hell of a match, mostly brawling outside with Ozaki making liberal use of chains and chairs. Momono gets in some desperate offense that looks really good, like a series of maybe two dozen headbutts. Doing whatever she can to fend off Ozaki. My only complaint was that some of Ozaki's strikes without weapons looked kind of weak. This is a problem I've had with a lot of Joshi and might just be something I have to get used to. But her powerbombs and suplexes looked great. Everything Momono did was really impressive, especially her German suplexes and she took a lot of wild bumps and chair shots. By the end the crowd is going nuts, too, which elevated the match quite a bit. I won't spoil the finish, but it hooked me and I'll be very interested to see how these two get booked in the future. Worth checking out.

HM: Josh Alexander vs Steve Maclin, Impact Victory Road 9/8 I don't watch IMPACT but I try to catch Josh Alexander matches cause I just think he's neat. Glad he's back. There were a couple of sloppy spots (Maclin delicately reversing an ankle lock which somehow send Alexander careening into the turnbuckles) but it was mostly a good, hard-hitting match. Lots of beautiful suplexes. Also, kind of an underrated ability, but Josh Alexander is great at kick-outs. I think this was his fist singles match back since recovering from a triceps tear. Of course, coming back from an injury means there were a lot of spots with Maclin working the newly healed arm. That always makes me cringe, but that just means they're working me!
