Would you be my new best friends?

I just watched the first episode and though some of the writing was a little contrived in places, it was a real fun watch, especially since Lyonne's delivery and general scruffiness make me keep mentally projecting Peter Falk into her place :allears:

I thought that section in particular was a little weak and had Charlie taking some pretty wild chances on how things would go, but I figure the idea was that once they realize the whale has hosed off and all the implications that has for the casino (and them!) they were in such a rush to race up there to confirm it that Cliff dropped the phone.

What bugged me about that sequence in particular was that Charlie raced up there after them, presumably to make sure they really grasped how much she had hosed them over to make them pay for what they did to her friend, which was just continuing to put her more in harm's way. Something I really liked about episode 2 and 3's conclusions, which I'd like to think is because she's learned, is that Charlie isn't there for either of the murderer's final reckoning, she's just moved on confident that she's set things up so that somebody with power AND a sense of responsibility will do what needs to be done, and she doesn't need to be there to see it.

Yeah but there was no reason for her to think or even not to expect that Junior himself would immediately want to kill her as a final petty revenge on her for ruining him, and she couldn't know whether Cliff would sit back and allow that or if he'd even just happily go along with an order from Jr. to kill her for him.

Unrelated to all that, I love the bit in episode 2 where Charlie lies herself and she's TERRIBLE at it. Just immediately winces and gives away she's talking complete poo poo. :allears:

I really enjoyed episode 6, loved that Charlie was largely piecing it all together largely without the benefit of her "magic power", coming to (halfway) right conclusions and then setting everything up for the confession. I think part of what made the episode work for me was that they'd gotten away with the murder scott-free and if they'd followed the original plan then they'd have probably gotten away with everything. But they had to get greedy, which kept them in Charlie's orbit, which allowed the younger actress to find the notes in the jacket, which lead to the blackmail attempt, which lead to the second planned murder, which lead to Charlie learning more info and finding out at opportune times that people were lying (or telling the truth) and eventually lead to the "confession".

This is just a really fun show!

Ahaha I know! "You wrote the script, baby!" and then it turns out she just straight up cribbed it from an episode of their terrible show (Spooky, my God).

Also regarding the honour of the racist dog in ep3 I'm pretty sure the last shot of the dog with the radio DJ means that it's actually his and that the dog wasn't racist after all, it just knew his voice. Which would make sense with why the dog was so keen to get off the car right next to the radio station.

Oh that's absolutely how I read it, Charlie assumed the dog was racist but the dog can't understand what the guy on the radio is saying, he just liked the nice voice!

Peacock still seem to be in the "oh my god we need HOW MUCH content to maintain subscribers???" phase of things, you can let a little hope into your heart for Poker Face

Apparently they just scrapped a deal they had with Comcast(?) where subscribers to that got Paramount's streaming service (Plus?) included, so either they're expecting plenty of people to fork out the extra cash to keep it or they're about to lose a number of "subscribers".

I don't care about any of that, just keep giving Rian Johnson money to make this show!

Really loved that episode and how it played around a bit with the formula. Particularly liked how the guy weaponized her ability to make her investigate his rival but LOVED that what ended up raising her suspicions is when he actually did a GOOD thing and reassured the kid about the seat-belt in the go-kart, and his well-intentioned lie there exposed his whole scheme. The ending where technically he gets away with everything and is rewarded but you know he's completely hosed and so does he was also very well-handled.

I absolutely loved that episode, that scene where the killer is smoothly (without knowing Charlie's power) telling the truth via obfuscation and then just as the door is closing tells ONE lie, which then turns into her just baldfacedly laying out one after another after another in front of a twitching Charlie :allears:

I knew she was in a couple of shows that I haven't seen before like Orange is the New Black and Russian Doll, but I somehow failed to make the connection that Natasha Lyonne played Jessica (the unbelievably cool, laidback character who helps the nerdy guy build up his reputation) in American Pie :aaa:

Well I love how that wrapped up, and it was particularly satisfying that what did Cliff in was that initial murder of Charlie's friend, rather than all his other crap, and OF COURSE he immediately turned the moment the pressure was on him.

I really liked Cliff as a character. You could see in his face, how deliberately he kept choosing his words to not lie. And he was honestly quite smart about it.

Yeah, really dug that he was so careful about not only not saying anything that was a lie, but framing his responses in a way that felt natural rather than tiptoeing around her ability. "How'd that chip get there?" "It was there when we arrived."
