NPR just had a piece positing that Biden running for re-election is not going to be a victory; younger voters are outright saying they won't vote if we are just repeating the last election. There is real concern among some in the Dems that they are losing the younger vote specifically because there has been no real progress, and America isn't in a much different spot that 2020 in the grand scope.

Even if he doesn't enter in good faith, the rest of the forum might enjoy the discussion.

Isn't there some nuance to this? I got the impression that the movie was heavily implying that the government of earth actually steered that asteroid towards Buenos Aires to whip people into a 9/11 style frenzy. My vague memories are that they never really came out and said that, but that they left it really open to interpretation in that the bugs didn't have that capability to strike earth.

That's one theory put forth by fans post 9/11.
In the film, the given reasons were that they launched it because human ("Mormon Extremists") violated a neutral zone.

I don't recall any implication one way or the other- they explain the Bugs basically just 'shoved' the asteroid to attack Earth. To me, this implies they are more advanced than the Fed wants to portray.

He's not a mascot, but I just want to share my favorite picture of Detective Tubbs Lumpkins, MD. This is the night my wife brought home an abandoned 2 week old kitten, who I refused to name until her first vet appointment- where we found out she was younger than we thought.
"What rescue cared for her?"
"My husband."
"Wow. He did an amazing job. Any experience?"
"He'd say the Infantry. He just loves little furry things "

My wife smiles because I am still so god drat proud she cleans herself properly. I used to sit with a cup of warm water and toothbrush and groom her when she was tiny. She's fully grown, but still small because formula and love only does so much. She's also nearly fearless- she takes no poo poo from out our other older cats, or our 3 pups. Hank is my home. She comes when I call her, and chills on my shoulder like a monkey.

Carter was one of the better Presidents we've had. He seems like a good man who got put above his pay grade, and did the best he could with what he had.

I'll admit I'm not terribly well read on him or his administration. I'll also admit that the soldier part of me has a bit of undying admiration from an interview he did. He was asked if he could change anything from his Presidency, what would have been.
"I would have sent one more helicopter." In reference to Eagle Claw. I've never seen any writing to support it, but from what it looks like from my limited studies, the loss at Desert One and the Failure of Eagle Claw broke him as a man, understandably.

Hogan slipped while setting Belzer down and Belzer cracked his head on the concrete and he sued Hogan for 5 million dollars for injuries.

Then again in the US you can sue a homeowner for injuring yourself while breaking and entering on their property lol.

Hard disagree. A major part of professional wrestling is control and safety of your partner. Hogan was negligent because of his ego and the stigma that wrestling is fake.

I cannot recommend his final appearance on Letterman. It's available on YT, and is amazing. Warren was the only guest, and it's crazy to hear this man just be so exposed about his coming demise. He does a few songs, too.

A fun easy to consume popular history on the Stanleyville Crisis is 'Save the Hostages!' A contemporary piece published in paperback by Readers Digest, largely detailing broadstrokes. Mad Mike makes an appearance, as do the Belgians, and CIA air assets.

It also has some fair coverage on some of the culture of the Simba/Banta fighters.
It suffers from some period racism, but it is largely lacking the expected grossness.

That's not what it says.
It says Officer Boom Boom shot at the same time as LL.
The way it is very specifically phrased is very telling. Could be wrong.

Note- I'm not saying it was a bad shoot- I'm saying the way they phrased it, it looks incredibly suspect. And the specific word choices lead me to believe they are presuming the shoot is borderline.

I'm probably wrong, just running scenarios from familiar situations. 40mm fires, about a quarter to a half second following the other guy shot, his brain processing the info as "I heard the shot, it's been too long, it's not working, shoot shoot shoot" because his Fight or Flight pegged out. Dollars to Donuts, if there is body cam footage released, there will not be enough time to register the effects of the baton round before dude gets perforated.

I'm harsh, but I am not trying to drag the officer if my scenario is correct. That is a cascade of failures in tactics, training, planning, and control. None of which would change the fact that yeah, it's not my fault Punchy never finished The Last Samurai.

I follow a few guys who are instructors in the Sniping community, specifically Army.
The guy who was head instructor at Benning (moved on) had been saying for years that basic skills and fieldcraft have been degrading at a steady pace because of GWOT. He was specific that because of the focus on urban/semi-urban sniping, guys can't stalk. They are loving up basic poo poo, failing to adequately camo equipment, over reliance on cool guy looks and gear, not enough on the basics of the craft, like Intel gathering, and "half of what makes us Scout Snipers". He came up under Pre-GWOT doctrine.

Not in the field, I can't say. I can say that I am witnessing an incredibly similar scenario in the Infantry. There are so very few guys left with the institutional first hand experience, that lessons will have to be learned the hard way. "Why does the book say do it X? Y is what makes more sense."
::humps 5k::
"OH. That's why the book says to do X."
I have a friend in the Infantry (NG) still, and he's heard guys bitch about "finding places for 3 more mags" because they all use micro rigs, because their SL used micro rigs, because he started when he was always in arms reach of a truck in 2009.
