I mean I also innocently assumed “oh, like figure and gesture drawing!” when I heard “artistic nudity” and didn’t realized that also allowed outright softcore porn lol. I feel like it’d be possible to thread that needle but I don’t blame them for just blanket banning it again.

It's not your job to think things through though. Twitch should dig a little deeper than a superficial reaction to an idea before implementing it.

I'm on the outside, but the impression I've gotten from assorted insiders and bystanders, the low-quality demos and releases they've put out recently (The Phantom Fury demo and Kingpin Remaster were tragicomically bad) and really just watching things with my eyes is that the studio was pretty mismanaged to the point of making some very low-quality, low-selling, development-hell-mired games out of some incredibly talented people. Embracer definitely pulled the trigger themselves, but this decision was sadly on the wall for a long time, especially after Volition bit it.
I think even aside from mismanagement, they've turned into boomer shooter specialists, which seems like a pretty precarious business model. It's a hard thing to get right, a hard thing to turn into repeatable success, and a hard thing to do with a small team (especially when dealing with ancient codebases).

Kinda lame that the only rollback is artistic nudity, i feel like you can craft a rule that allows for figure studies and life drawing without enabling AI deep fakes

But also nothing else changed because the policy changes didn’t allow general nudity to begin with, it just allowed clothed women to not be banned for having bodies. And it allowed twerking.

seems like they're going through and unbanning most/all of the streamers who got caught in the confusion at least

I don't really see a huge deal with banning nudity in art on Twitch, it's stopping some things that should be allowed, but it's not exactly harming anyone that you can't do figure studies or life drawing on Twitch. The art side was never the important bit of what they were trying to do. The clarity around what people can do with their own bodies seems much more important.

I don't understand while they don't just create a separate category for it. They have their "pools, hot tubs, and beaches" category as a containment zone for the hottub streamers. They could have very easily just created a "mature art" category for anyone who wants to draw nude/semi-nude art.

I don't feel like this should be a controversial take but I feel also feel like any stream that is tagged as some variation of "mature" "nsfw" or "sexual content" should not be visible in the directory at all unless you are logged in and are 18+. But that feels like a whole different fight.

How is “nude art must go in the nude art containment zone” more of a moderation challenge than “no nude art”? I’m genuinely curious here, I have no idea how moderation of streaming services works.

Because in the first instance whenever someone breaks containment they actually have to have site-wide moderators on payroll, who understand this weeks version of the rules and then have to make a call. Even if that call is always, 100% nuke that person from orbit humans are fallible and someone will eventually nuke a streamer that doesn't have it coming.

the "just sleeping" category that afk streamers who sleep during their subathons had to use isn't even a category twitch provided but a game whose listing was repurposed

twitch are basically going to go continue to merge and split categories like they did with "irl" until the end of time without knowing what they're really doing

Putting any trust in Twitch employees to actively and properly moderate content is a waste of time. The vast majority of their moderation is going to be automatic based on some algorithm, and it might only get eyes on it for an appeal if the person appealing is a Twitch partner or has some status.

We're only a few years out from there be a culture of Twitch employees accessing streamers personal info and harassing them, expecting some kind of improved moderation policy is a fever dream.
