Gotta get some colonists so you can expand north without having to worry about pesky things like declaring wars or having a valid claim to justify killing the people living there.

From - Lord Admiral Grey Hunter, To - Her Royal Highness, Empress of the Croctapus Empire. There are more revolutions. I have no loyalty to the guilds, so we bypass them and take some short term anger for long term production boosts. We now know how to build docks – all we need is some useable coastal provinces! The rebels are crushed. But people are just not getting the hint! I will keep on giving the lessons though! Let's keep the nobles on side for a bit longer. Somewhere in there is a trade node, I just need to find it, and then I can start syphoning trade off! Inflation be dammed, I need the power! The first wave of our conquests are properly intrigated into the empire. We expand the royal court to accommodate the new nobles, this will help spread this “Renaissance” thing everyone is talking about. It's not going poorly, it should be said. The locals seem to be experimenting with basic gunpowder weapons – under my tutelage, there is minimal loss of fingers! We see our Mongolian roots improve our cavalry. It seems Bairma is as dumb as her dad – it's good thing I'm transitioning away from the power of the Emperor! Let's crush that little revolt. Done! Proper urbanization is finally beginning. I end a dispute between the nobles and the priests. The truce with the Orochoni ends, and we have already claimed some lands. So the day after the truce ends we're at war again. We continue to push on the infrastructure projects! Our forces advance unopposed. We've occupied most of the country before we find their army. Sorry, I should of course said Crush their army! This is going well. We try and control the unrest. All but one province of Orochoni is now ours. And look, we caused more casualties than we took! Of course, now we have this single province minor in the middle of our territory, which cannot stand. Lancelot seems to not care what religion people are. Good for him. I don't even care religions exist beyond the need to keep the livestoc.... peasants happy. I'm forced to pay harshly to keep both the people and the merchants happy. Now we have a problem, Orochoni is part of this war, on their single province defended by a small strip of well defended water. The problem is they have a fleet, and we do not, in fact, we can't even build a fleet until we have made all the newly conquered Orochoni provinces part of the empire! So a stalemate begins. The Renaissance continues to spread. Several Orochoni revolts happen and are crushed. We use spies to steal a huge number of maps. This uncovers the trade node we are doing 31% of all trade with. Apparently although we were trading there, we were not allowed to Trade there until we found it. These Simians test my patience daily. A few quick changes late, and we are now pushing 43% off all the trade value towards our capital, further enriching Albion. Lancelot falls seriously ill. I take the opportunity to strip the monarchy of more power. I should say I'm all for our monarchy, just not the false monarchy of a subject race. Technology continues to advance. We do have naval ambitions – it would be nice to have a navy! The war comes to its inevitable end. The same day, news comes that Lancelot has died and early death, leaving me with a complete incompetent in the form of Bairma. It cannot be stressed how useless she is. She's so bad we see an immediate revolt against the “extraordinary injustice” of having someone so inept on the throne. Compared to her, her lacklustre husband looks like a genius. Unfortunately for the pretender, I'm in charge, not Bairma. I quickly crush a few more minor revolts. We now have access to the coast, once I am done coring the region, we can then build a fleet and start thinking of more expansions. See, things are going much better now I am in direct control! Yours. Grey Hunter.

How feasible would it be to grab Korchin, Jianzhou and Korea while you build up your ability to float? Those should still be land conquests and grant you money, manpower and production. It's also obvious enough that I imagine it's your plan already.

Yeah, I'd want to pick a direction - I've never tried coming at America from this angle, it could be a fun colonization run - but Korchin, Jianzhou and Korea would be much richer right off the bat! Going east seems to be working though!

From - Lord Admiral Grey Hunter, To - Her Royal Highness, Empress of the Croctapus Empire. I call the locals together – the plan is to see if I can improve relations with them. The merchants will give me a pile of cash if I improve the development of a province – something that will also give me more money in the long term! improving the base production gives a lot of bonuses, but like all infrastructure, it takes time for things to pay for themselves. I'm taking the long view on my test to conquer this world. The short term cash is nice though. Trade is blooming. I have no idea why these men are hanging around here. Oh yeah, they are there to hunt rebels – no other reason at all. No other reason at all. Urbanization continues. Kurgan is worried about being attacked by Volga-Ural, so they cosy up to us. Apparently I've made life too good for these locals! The Pendragon's continues to produce daughters – this one looks much better than her mother, though still not great at anything but administration. This is good information to have on an infant, I love this machine. It's also a good thing we have such tech loaded into a escape pod! Technology for inflation? Yes please! Work begins on brining the last of the conquered lands under our full control. Dammit, Ming is the biggest threat to us! Kurgan take the next logical step, and become our vassal. It only took our diplomat a few years to convince them. What natives? You mean the humans that live in Albion? We now have a fleet! It's pitiful, but it's a start after five hundred years of being landlocked – it's been horrible! At least now I can go on trips to the coast and look at the waters! Anyway, these two ships are going to increase our profits, and two more will be on the way soon! Another rebellion is suppressed. I turn a blind eye to some dubious practices as it gives me two base tax! Corruption is not a major problem at this time. The Diet is called again, this time, the nobles want me to conquer and subjugate Alakol. Me, turn down a cause for war? NEVER! I complete some missions, and the nation is expanding nicely. Korchin needs destroying, and have no allies. A single of our armies will be enough for this. When are the peasants NOT uppity around here? The Korchin war is a odd one, their small army rampages around the countryside while we take their homeland. This turns out to work. We immediately start absorbing the lands. Now it's on to the main war! This guy sings so well, our entire nation gets happier. This guy is the planets first celebrity. The first battle is a defeat. This is because these rebels popped up and distracted the main army! Dammit, I misjudged how expensive this war would be! Our allies arrive, and we are taking land nicely now. Tangyad, their ally is the main threat here, and our forces are in their lands attacking them. A new century starts, and we have enough money (thanks to that loan) to embrace the renaissance! Which then makes this tech cheap enough to advance! The smaller of Alakol's allies peaces out. Meanwhile, the royal court just has fun. Fine, it keeps them out of my scales like the annoying burrowing parasites they are! Rebels are using the war as an opportunity, I need to break an army off to deal with them. Bairma's only edit is to keep on converting people to Jewisim, which I am, if only to stop them fighting amongst themselves! A large Tangyud force defeats on of our armies. This allows them to start retaking lands in Alakol. I have to send in the main army, backed up by our allies. We still have the numbers, but our manpower reserves are empty. We curtail the clerics, minimizing their power as I would love to minimize the Nobility. We get access to another idea group, but I'll pick that once the war is over. This is good timing! The war swings back in our favour as we smashed their spread out forces. Technology is advancing quickly now. Volga-Ural senses our weakness, and finally attacks Kurgan! Unfortunately for them, days later all resistance in Tangyud collapses. That was a much bloodier war than I had hoped for, and has left us with few replacement troops. But we have a fresh vassal! Kurgan is already occupied, and their forces are marching into our lands. At least the nobles are happy! Byzantium is still expanding, but all I risk losing from this war is a vassal – and I may still prevail! All In have to do is decide what the new ideas I'm going to implant into this nation will be! Yours, Grey Hunter

From - Lord Admiral Grey Hunter, To - Her Royal Highness, Empress of the Croctapus Empire. Apparently people are questioning my ability to rule? The normal person is seeing boom times! Ignore the looting enemy armies! We lose the first battle against the Volga-Ural forces. Ming get in on the act - my armies are shattered, I have no manpower – there is no ability to fight. We take a humiliating defeat before it gets worse. I marshal all my forces, and we engage the forces of Ming. But it is nor to be, the last of our army is broken. We can't face this. Another defeat to prevent a worse one. My borders! Now we get the better troops. The first order of business is to repay that loan before it gets any worse. A number of territories are turned into states, allowing us to free up some more cash. We also pick exploration as our new idea – there is more of this world we need to know about before we can conqure it. But we will not be going to war for a while – we need nearly 60,000 men to replace all our losses, and another 50,000 to get the manpower reserves back up! At 600 men a month this will take some time! At least we have a new vassal! The nation is not doing so well right now! At least this death is useful! The Rabbis seem to think they can do a better job, and raise an army. This will mean more lost men. The battles are one sided, but cost me nearly 5,000 men I am struggling to replace. I call a diet to try and stabilize things. This is easy enough to do. I begin to build some barracks, to try and increase our manpower reserves. Another dead merchant improves our devastated prestige. I also fix up our legitimacy a bit. At least the Rabbis are on side now. I need money fast. I sell the Empress's lands for a huge pile of cash. More soldiers are needed! We are gettiung there. On the other hand, I'm happy to purge 11,000 non existent people! I try to control inflation. Then the Empress goes and dies, while she was useless, this is not a good time. Because this happens. Oh come on! Wait! Was that a Scout ship? It was! You are watching me my Empress! I have accepted this test and shall prevail, although things are not going well at this time! The pretenders are crushed. Repeatedly. Do you know what we need? Tea, tea solves everything apparently. I bring the stability of the nation back up. There is still a long way to go to repair the damage. Yours, Grey Hunter

From - Lord Admiral Grey Hunter, To - Her Royal Highness, Empress of the Croctapus Empire. Since my last update, your highness, I have realised that part of my problem is the huge numbers of empty regiments that still have their commanders requesting their full funding! I disband 24 regiments. This halves the manpower deficit. I really needed that money! Another loan will not help our damaged finances. The challenges are fine, its not like we have the men to expand any time soon – the revolt is annoying! It's easily suppressed of course. But it's more losses I can scarcely afford at this time. I ask the Diet how to improve the nation – this time they want more taxes. This is easily achived. We continue our age of discovery. I want to explore this world and find fresh lands to conqure. Unfortunately I'm seen as an easy target right now! They are allied to ming, giving them crushing superiority. We attempt to pick off one of their smaller armies. But things go poorly. Oh come on! We are now at war with our three largest enemies at once! Things are not going well. I am forced to capitulate in both wars rather than prolonging the inevitable. Our lands are split. Technology may be our only way out of this. Jianzhou becomes the next nation to declare war on us – but they are much smaller. I am told switching to the new guns would be a mistake mid war. They go into our lands, we being to conquer theirs – we know who has the most land after all. Sure, use any of them – I'm past caring about those idiots. He at least look fairly competent. I cannot stress how much I need money at the moment – the lost lands were some of our richer ones! This will help! We quickly end the war. The Diet allow me to improve the nation for more cash. I modernize the army. I then tighten my grip on the Empire. [img]https://lpix.org/4556559/d5].jpg[/img] We have rebuilt the army! Now to get a reserve! I move to stabilize the empire. Someone has discovered a new world out there – one ripe for plunder, and the humans are entering a colonial age. Though it pains me, I sell more crown land. It's the only way I'm going to pay off these debts – and the interesting is crippling my income! I work on our infrastructure. Which has the knock-on affect of making my subjects more accepting of rapid expansion. We also get in on this colonizing idea ourselves. Trading with them seems a good idea. Our first colony is small, but it is a start – why we need more frozen wilderness is beyond me, but the people seem keen. Yeah, you're on your own. For once I buy off the peasants, rather than eating them. This one tickled me, right after abandoning our allies to Ming. I seem to have stabilized the nation. Now comes the hard mission of rebuilding! Yours, Grey Hunter

From - Lord Admiral Grey Hunter, To - Her Royal Highness, Empress of the Croctapus Empire. Multiculturalism is good. I need to sort the trade issue, so we get more protective. People flow to the new colony. I cannot stress how bad our financial situation is! This will save us 2.5 ducats a month! It's this or take a huge prestige hit. Namzila needs a divorce for some reason. Religion I guess. I'm not paying attention. I will work with the Diet to expand our tax base once more. I complete our work to make states. This is a major tech update. This gives us better cavalry and Artillery. I then seize lands from the estates, to try and fix my tax woes. They take this poorly. It's only two regiments of 6k men, and are easily crushed. The people like to buy the shiny stuff. It's time to expand once more. The natives are integrating themselves. The only battle in the war goes well. The Pendragons are so debauched it shakes the whole realm. It feels good to be expanding again. The next day, this happens. We organise the military better. We're going to need it. The first engagement goes our way. We see them massing their forces. Literally days after their truce ends, Tangyud are back at us. They bring Ming with them, making us at war with all three of our largest neighbours at once. Again. The news from the front is not good. Not good at all. At least I can say we're not the only great nation to be getting their faces kicked in – Byzantium is getting attacked by all the surrounding nations in a grand allaince. As the enemy control of our lands increase, our income nose dives, and we are declared bankrupt! Yeah, come on, join the party! Our ability to fight is broken. Massive revolts begin to spring up. Things are just collapsing! Tangyud takes huge tracts of land. Loss of life is high on both sides. I cannot even defeat a horde of peasants! Even the minors are jumping on us. We have no army, and need peace! Is this how a great empire dies? Yours, Grey Hunter Okay, so I've played this out three times now, and it's the same each time – we can't deal with the Ming/Tangyud alliance, and they break us – there are a few new features since I last played and I made some mistakes as well. So, we have two options – one is give up and move on to a new game, the other is THIS WAS ALL A SIMULATION! With a restart at the start of EUIV. What would you like to see?
