Hmmm well I never watched either of those, but I could more readily see it with animation given the gaps and progressions in various aspects of the mediums over time.

Let's narrow it down - live action non-reboots with many of the same actors?

Yeah, it sucks that we only have the Mike Judge DVDs for the original show but he’s right that most of it was poo poo. Even those DVDs have some real duds on them.

Is there any other show which has kept up the quality after a gap of over a decade then came back? It's wild, and they are actively utilizing that gap within the narrative of the show itself.

The new cast are totally on the same wavelength with tone, too.

Party Down is the one that most feels exactly like the original show like they haven’t missed a step at all. The various B&BH revivals are a close second, but Party Down is nailing it in every way.

Children's Hospital -> Medical police? But that was only like 5 years.
Ken Marino is good at that, it seems.

The WHAS series prequel/sequel thing was also better than it has any right to be. Not as completely jam packed as the movie was, but a very good watch for a 15 years later thing.

Well good to know there is other stuff out there, but of all the examples listed I have watched.. none of them, OG runs or post, at least to any meaningful degree. Watched a good bit of Children's Hospital but that's a bit more flexible in terms of what it's doing as a show and the tones it hits, plus there are shows that kind of work in the same spaces laterally off of the CH sort of approach and parody.

This show has been a phenomenal.. I'd say revival? It all holds up so well, it's magical.

Adam Scott is great in this, and I'm happy that he really leans into how hollowed out Henry feels this time around. There was a lot of "bleh Adam Scott is the same in every role" then and there still is now. Good poo poo.

But man, Ken Marino. He's always a blast of energy in every role, but no other show really understands what to do with him. Here, though? Its a perfect mind-meld of actor, performance, and script.

He's very good in The Other Two as well! But I agree that he feels underused as a comedy actor when you see how good he is in these roles.

I haven’t been loving the reboot (and I was a bit cooler on the rewatch of the first two seasons than when I first watched the show like six years ago) but I don’t think anything on TV this year will be funnier than this

drat that was a good episode. Can't believe it took this long for Dan Bakkedahl to appear on Party Down but he was perfect.

I was so happy with the character reveal at the end that I almost cried. Perfect way to end it and tease more. (please oh please make more.)

Ron suddenly realizing he lives in a cartoon was so perfect, because I too realized a few weeks ago that his character works on cartoon logic in all three seasons.

I can't believe the season's already finished, I could have done with another 10 episodes. I know it's been said, but man, it's like they didn't lose a step over the last ten or fifteen years, this season was consistently great.

Also, doing a rewatch of S1 while I'm doing housework, and I just got to the porn awards episode. It's got Stormy Daniels!
