There's a good number of Coen brother movies I don't really care to watch again. Burn after reading was first to come to mind. But then there's Buster Scruggs, No Country, Barton Fink, The Man who wasn't there, and Fargo. They did Adaptation too, right?

When I was a teen i knew a guy who rented this every weekend and he would have watched it at least three times before returning it.

The group of us also rented something called 'Executions'. It was basically liveleak before the internet - and probably illegal. Biodome fanatic was the guy who rewinded Executions to watch the death scenes again.

I'm not sure how these two facts are related but they have to be, somehow.

I am very bad at predicting parental reactions to movies and we've been watching them together for ~35 years.

Yep, I generally like the Cohen brothers and on some level I appreciated that this was just a total inversion of every feel-good Western trope. But, despite Clint being a fuckin shithead, I think Unforgiven more or less did the same thing, much earlier, and without being as mercilessly cruel to the audience as Scruggs was. The Tom Waits bit was sort of the only bright spot for me, but the Liam Neeson bit was so loving obnoxiously black hearted that it filled me with mild rage.

I've never seen Miller's Crossing and I don't know that I ever will; at least one of their movies (Hudsucker Proxy) is on my all time top-10 american movies list, but wow are they all over the map. My parents showed me Barton Fink when I was 13 or 14 and it scared the living poo poo out of me, and No Country is dark and scary as gently caress, but both of those movies appear to me to have "interesting poo poo going on" that Scruggs didn't, Scruggs was like being hit in the head with a hammer six times in a row.

I guess it was originally going to be released a serialized thing, maybe that would have made it more palatable, but I sort of doubt it. poo poo is just hosed up.

for a movie I passionately dislike and will not watch again, it was thought provoking and took me a full 48hrs to settle on how I felt about it. Right there that elevates it above about 90% of the poo poo I've consumed as far as making me put some work in.

That said, gently caress that movie.

On the other hand, Tammy and the T-Rex absolutely should make this list but I've seen it two or three times and I bet I'll double that before I die

looks like she had a whole bunch of 1-shot TV appearances, of which that is on the higher profile side, but Tammy is indeed her first film credit. Er, movie, that may have been a shot-on-betamax deal. Then more tv shows for 3 years, then Starship Troopers which is funny because I would have seen ST a couple times around the same time I watched Tammy & The T-Rex the first time, but do not remember connecting it.

Beavis & Butthead do the Universe. It’s ok but Do America is so much better, or just rewatching the reboot. Universe felt like Judge was shakily figuring out the characters again but it hadn’t quite clicked yet, it’s so much better when they’re interacting with a sane world, rather than existing in a zany world.
