The Meters - Whatcha Say is really neat. Starts off timid and dreamy, a love confession part in the middle and then it ends wild and all like lets gooo. Great song, great band.

I'm sick of seeing animated weiners french kissing in every fucking GBS thread.
I listen to full albums at work when I can wear my cans, but generally it goes

1. High on Fire - Death Is This Communion/De Vermis Mysteriis/Luminiferous (depending how I feel that night)
2. Mastodon - Blood Mountain
3. Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley/Blues for the Red Sun
3. Some kind of Ween or Zeppelin or something
4. Mastodon - Crack the Skye

with some time in between plays to talk to people and deal with production stuff. Usually I start Crack the Skye about 50 minutes before shift change, and I time out my work to album length.

It's been like this for a while.

nah chill
a music blog I check out sometimes had a 2022 year end list and this entry hit me like a freight train

quote:

Hooky post-hardcore for depressives who still just wanna have fun. Instantly memorable hooks abound. It's a collection of meditations on pain, how it enters our life and how we exorcise it; and it's a collection of anthems to shout at the top of your lungs in a packed, sweaty basement. "Ashes in the Birdbath" is one of my favorite songs of any year. The weeping strings, the chiming guitars, the way the words "And I cried all year 'cause some of my friends / They keep dying on me over again" just spill out of his mouth, only to be followed by the clear-eyed "But I saw a sky so beautiful / I believed in hope over despair"... it just sends me.

Ethel Cains album "Preacher's Daughter" is absolutely amazing, but I've listened to Family Tree roughly 10 trillion times since November

Holy poo poo, I finally found a song I've sorta had stuck in my head for like 15 years.

All I could remember was one snippet of the chorus and that wasn't getting it done, then it randomly came up on a playlist!

Oh god I feel like the back of my brain just got scratched so good.

Not really embarrassing, more weird, but "Brightside" by The Lumineers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KWOTBhWhyU

Reminds me of an ex I split up with in 2007, and that years later found out that she'd died (I hadn't heard from her in a long time so paid for a people search/background check service). I don't know how she died, or the circumstances around it, and it's not like I've ever felt what I'd really call grief about it, but this song captures that relationship so well I keep listening to it. It's some kind of odd mix of nostalgia and self-reflection going on that I don't fully understand, but keep doing.

Nine Inch Nails "The Perfect Drug" is in the mix, too, as I listened to that a fair amount when I was first getting involved with the girl in question. It was not exactly the healthiest relationship...
