Open Source Idiom posted:Hell yeah, right there with you. Yeah, that was very much from the perspective of “not marketable = bad”, but fortunately that’s completely irrelevant to me. I’ll be shocked if it makes its budget back, but does Coppola even care about that in the first place? The dude’s 84, he might as well blow all his money on making whatever weird poo poo he wants before he dies.

One thing that kept coming up was the inplausibility of a scenario where California, Florida, and Texas team up to rebel. What's not been mentioned is that it's a three sided war. Implying it's liberal vs conservative vs federal.

My review of Late Night with the Devil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI7JDTlixb8&t=26s Edit: I saw the movie with a free ticket that I got from the theater after they messed up the early fan screening of Dune pt 2 so nobody got any money out of this transaction.

Matt Zoller Seitz was fairly positive on Civil War, and he's a smart cookie as far as I can tell. (vague spoilers) His review implies that CA and TX are teamed up together though, with Florida as a separatist group, which he argues makes some sense if you think about CA tipping conservative thanks to the influence of groups like Silicon Valley libertarians and Yes California.

This discourse has been done to death, but cali and Texas do tend to be the perennial "maybe we gonna secede nyah" states, and it isn't exactly out of the realm of possibility that they'd team up to support each other's attempt. It's a little simple to imagine that they would both be simply raging expressions of their most popular political party's ideologies. Hard nosed politics beats electoral jockeying, especially in war. The very anti communist USA teamed up with the USSR in world war 2, and even the historic civil war saw anti-slavery England supporting the CSA. Not hard to imagine Texas or California declaring succession and then the other following suit.

we can secede in the sense that unlike the other states that threaten to do it we can actually sustain ourselves texas would never team up with a state that has cucked guns though

I've been mostly avoiding spoilers but everything so far that I've seen indicates that the film isn't that interested in mapping onto current american political divides (or at least not the big red Vs blue ones), even purposefully avoiding it. Maybe it's like one of those films in a generic foreign conflict, but in the USA so that it can't be dismissed as something that happens elsewhere
